I'm putting this out there in case you had some ongoing business with Jim.
I was waiting to receive something that I bought, when his daughter reached out to me and informed me of Jims condition. She was trying to figure out who else parts needed to be shipped to. If you are one, I can put you in touch with her. |

Praying for comfort and strength for family and friends!!!
I've seen him selling numerous parts, figuring he was down sizing, as many of us need to do. A definite expert at showing the world, what Pontiac's are all about, performance wise!!! He should have written a book!!!

Just heard the news. What a tremendous loss to the Pontiac community. He will be deeply missed. He was a class act and shared his invaluable knowledge and experience with anyone needing help.
I spoke to Jim many times about ram air firebirds. In fact, I called Jim less than a year ago and offered to pay him to help me set-up a 67 ram air firebird for Pure Stock Drag Racing. He wouldn't except money. He emailed me detailed instructions and great advice on how to set up the front and rear suspension and also how to tune the carb, time it and degree the 744 cam. He was a class act and Pontiac legend. My condolenses to his wife and family. He will be sorely missed.

Jim will be missed for sure. Spoke with him on many occasions at Pontiac and stock appearing drag races where he was running his RAII 'Bird in Pure Stock/Factory Stock. Bought and sold a few things with him as well. Always quiet and humble, you'd never know about his storied racing career if someone didn't tell you.

Legendary Pontiac Royalty
Has been one of my all-time hero's since the 80's He and those RamAir2 Deuce Firebirds put Pontiac back on the map in the 80's and 90's in a real big way. He shot down every type of steel body production line cars in the 1/4 mile back then at highly publicized Musclecar Drag events. Hemi's, 440's, LS6, Boss-9's, Stage-1, W-30, all of them He was awesome. He was also a PY Forum member Very sad to hear he has left us Wish all the best to his family and friends, may they find strength and peace through their memories of Jim. |

Based upon my interactions with Mr. Mino in person and online, I have had nothing but the utmost respect for Jim. The last time I had contact with him he supplied me with a bunch of reference pictures of his white '68 RA (credit to Scott Tiemann) to help me with a '68 that I was restoring. He struck me as being most humble about his accomplishments and knowledge.
Jim Mino was a class act for sure. |

They had preliminary inspections everyone had to pass in order to compete at those events.
However, another part of Mino being such a really big deal - the icing on the cake - on 2 different occasions during those days (Musclecar Drags) he was protested enough that they required tear-down inspections on his engine. Believe it was required to pull one head and take measurements on head particulars and bore/stroke particulars. He passed the inspections 426-427-429-440-454-455 boys were all going ![]() ![]() Pontiac fans were like - KA-BOOM get u summa that ! ![]() Off-hand i can't recall anyone else having to do that in those events during that time period. He was THE MAN Built them, drove them, and beat them all Good Gracious it was just extraordinary Thanks for the memories Mr.Mino |
