They look interesting for sure. Both single plane which is good. Tops unbolt off both of them for easier porting.
KRE says the 2 x 4 intake can support 900 HP and the Tri Power 750 HP. And they make a matching aluminum crossover for the Tri Power. They look very nice. The 2 x 4 intake looks a little higher than the Offy and Edelbrock intakes. Not high end race stuff but I don't think they were intended to be. KRE comes through again. Looks like the Kaufmans are reacting to market demand.
They most definitely understand the Pontiac performance market and they should, being an innovative business with their finger on the pulse of this niche market. I’m sure they will sell a lot of these intakes, reasonably priced and exactly what we’ve been asking for. A porter’s delight with the removable top for easy access. ![]()

One manifold, multiple tops--2X4, 3X2 Holley, 3X2 Rochester...maybe others coming later. Single plane, so it's cheap and easy to cast.

Some Offys would work with HEI but most would need grinding on the DS carb bolt boss.
Probably same interference with the Kauffman Dual Quad unless they knew to clear the HEI. |

Those things are not made in China. It says "USA" in big, bold casting right on top of them.
"Trade Wind is simply along the lines of Polar Wind, North Wind ect. I bought the very first High Port water crossover from Jeff. He told me he just got them in from being "heat treated". Sure sounds like he has them made here. If you have ever looked closely at any of KRE intakes they are very well made. Really nice castings. The anti KRE crowd is still alive it seems. |

Not a knock on KRE, just an observation on the name. Any time I see “wind” in a cast item I think back to the crosswind(?) intake, tomahawk iirc, and being cast overseas.

A lot of that stuff is cast over seas, and then the finishing processes are done here, which allows them to say "Made in USA" in most states depending on how the laws are structured.
Doesn't make it a bad product necessarily, it's just the day and age we live in now. |

Recently used their unique water crossover for the Hi-port heads. Out of the box perfect fit with no mods, no leaks. Nice piece. Just a guess, but it would make sense that the intake manifolds would be poured by the same foundry that makes their heads by the pallet load. They already have a relationship with them and have made hundreds of heads. I like choices, and with the customer base getting smaller and smaller because of age and less care for what kind of engine is under the hood of a "Pontiac", I welcome anything for our "legacy" engines. Keep the parts coming.

These intakes are not only 100% designed and cast in the United States of America they are done in a brand new foundry 30 minutes from KREs shop. 100% OHIO (just got off the phone with Jeff)
This foundry is new and eager for new business but not ready to do something like a cylinder head yet. Jeff said he can have a idea for a new part and have piece back to in a matter of a few weeks. They are still having problems finding a large iron foundry with a 500lb pot that will do a 20 block run for our niche market. They exist but want to do large runs. The aluminum blocks are still getting made. And KRE has some very cool pieces that will be coming out over the next year or so. They make more Pontiac only parts than anyone by far. KRE haters need to get a life or find a new hobby. We are very lucky to have them. |
