Is there a template or any direction on how to mod a non ram air hood into a ram air hood. The hood scoop mounting is different let alone the placement of the flapper.

I guess I could snip and grind since everything more or less is hidden by the upper pan but figured Id ask the group. Since I know someone here has been there and done that.

If I'm not mistaken, I think Ames includes the instructions for the conversion when the parts are purchased. I think.

When I bought my '70 the conversion was already done. One of the previous owners of the car told me this. But this was about 2005.......

Ames sells a template for 69-70 hoods that you lay on the bracing and shows you where to cut.

I bought one and carefully used it to mark my cuts, then rolled it back up and put back in the tube it came in.

I figured I would resell it later for cheap to someone that could use it, but forgot about it. If you are not in a hurry and interested let me know.

I did my '68 hood. Not too different than the '69 and up as far as cutting is concerned. I just placed the pan against the hood marked it. I then used a cutoff wheel on a grinder and started cutting. Just threw a blanket over the engine compartment.
First, I hung the pan by the rear 'supports' and drove the front center screw. Then I marked and removed anything that interfered with it mounting.

here is a the underside of a nice straight factory 69-70 Ram Air hood I stumbled into last month..
.on a wrecked option loaded 69 Lemans Convertible, wreck ...
this is a factory GM trim/stamp cut inner brace structure ...
nice round curves in the corner cuts by the scoops ... and.. well.. you can just tell..
alot of room is needed for the vacuum cans to fit that are mounted on the hood pan ...

I've never seen one cut that neatly...most pics I've seen of originals look like they were cut by tin snips!

Wow, very cool and looks great. Greg love the car and over spray on the underside of your hood. Not to much where most others fail.

Michael, I am in no big hurry so let me know if you find the template.

Im also cutting out for the hood tach. Another Ive never been there done that project.

Regarding hood tach, this is from Ames I believe. There are several threads in the 70-72 forum suggesting it may be off and not the exact correct location so perhaps dig into that before cutting...
