can anyone tell me what that port where all the wires seem to meet? What is it good for? ANything in specific?

The item in the uper right picture corner look s like a FORD started switch.

It's a remote solenoid, instead of the wires going to the solenoid on your starter they are routed there, it is supposed to help with "Heat Soak" of the starter. Crawl under the car and see how many wires are going to your starter, probably only one big wire.
