Repairing underdash wiring harness question
Have any of you rebuilt your own under dash wiring harness and/or replaced individual wires from end-to-end with the terminals? I don’t want to splice and the wires I need to replace are bad right up to the connectors anyways so splicing is not really an option. One end of the wires I need to replace is connected directly to a fuse clamp (see picture) and the other end has a special female blade terminal with a retainer prong on the backside that slides into a socket (see picture). I need the connectors/terminals and fuse clamps.
If these are available I would also like to replace the rest of the fuse clamps since they are rusty. I don’t mind doing the work and the parts if available should be fairly inexpensive. I am trying to avoid spending the $560.00 for a replacement harness. Need these parts for my 68 Firebird |

Try calling M&H Fabricators. Maybe they will sell them to you. I just bought a new harness from them and they refurbished my old fuse panel with all new clips ..the same ones that you are looking for. I clear coated the fuse panel so the lettering would not rub off and sent it to them for refurbisment and all new wiring.
They would also be a source for the other clips. |

Personally I would not reuse that harness. In the third picture there is significant melting of the plastic coating on the green and a little on the white wires. No telling what other issues you may have with that harness you can't see. Contact M&H and but a new harness. I just bought one and they are identical to factory. Not like the "Painless ones" You plug and play with this one. having an electrical fire after a rebuild would really suck. But it's your car and just my opinion.

The male and female connectors are called "56" Series terminals for GM. I purchased mine through a place called Kwik Wire a div. of Saint wire and Cable. They are on the web at www.kwikwire.com. Their web site does not show all of the products thet have. I have their catalog from 2004. They also have the pliers needed to crimp the connectors on the right way. If you search the web, there are many places that have these.
