#s on the vin tag
On my 65 GTO which has a build date of 12 D of 64 the vin tag on the hinge pillar has a 12 and a 4. Anyone know what this is for?

in service date . stamped by first selling retail dealer. started in 65 to catalog POP . not all cars got this treatment.

My KC 64 has that 9 7 4 which was a Monday & was Labor day . Build sheet was 7/1/64

I guess that is just another thing to prove its authentic. Firewall tag date, pop date and vin tag date all match.

on that pop . thats all you need to prove engine and of course that its a GTO. motor code and MUN . Is on there. Dig around and find that brodcast or build sheet. this is better than PHS.
