Default K&N HP-2006 oil filter

I just wanted to share my experience with the K&N HP-2006 oil filter. My 70 GTO has Hooker super comp d-port headers. Changing the oil filter is a pain. For the first time I tried the K&N filter this past spring. The more narrow filter did make attaching the filter to the oil filter housing pretty easy. Also more air space between the header tubes and filter must be a good thing. I did not notice any change in my oil pressure while driving. Yesterday I changed the oil and filter. This was the the first time that I got to try the welded nut on the bottom of the filter for removal. I needed a 1" open end wrench for the job. The filter nut fit the wrench good and did not distort when removing the filter. I'm happy with this filter and will be using it for this application. I added a photo comparing the size of the K&N filter to a Hastings LF222 filter.

I had used K&N Oil Filters for a long time. Then I got one with one of nuts during the welding process burned through the can. Long story short the engine leaked through the end of the filter. Thankfully I caught it and put a new filter on it. I use just Mobil 1 and WIX filters now. K&N was nice enough to offer a new filter. I told them thanks but no thanks.

NAPA filters are WIX also. They even use the same part numbers just drop the first digit.
