Thumbs up My recent road trip in the GTO.

A few weeks ago a bunch of us on LS1GTO.com participated in what we called Goatrun 2007, a "rally" of sorts to Las Vegas. I know some of you are members on that site, but you may not have signed up to obtain access to that "special" section of the forums. Now that it's all over, I thought I'd share some pics.

Coming from Ferndale, WA (almost Canada, eh) I was the 2nd most distant traveler. There was one guy who drove from Florida. Here is the route I took...almost 2900 miles round trip.

I met with another GTO owner near Portland, and we drove tandem over the mountains to Reno where we hooked up with one more GTO in Reno. The three of us then took the "scenic" route and ended up in Vegas. The whole trip was awesome. I had way too much fun, met a lot of great people and made new friends.
Now the whoring of pics will commence.

Most of mine are from the road, but I snagged some from other folks as well.

Good thing we were turning left.

Best road sign EVAR!!!11one

We got to LVMS for the "show & shine" and security had us in this lot at first. They moved us a couple of times before taking us...

...through the tunnels and...

...onto the infield of the NASCAR track!...while a bunch of cars were running hot laps.

After the show & shine, a bunch of us went out drinking until 4am. We got pretty-well ****faced, lol. I'm the long-haired guy with the glasses.

The bartender was hot, and she was doing shots with the rest of us. She let one of the guys snap a pic of her cleavage.

The following day one of the local Vegas guys hosted a BBQ at his place. The food was awesome, and it was pretty cool seeing his entire street lined with GTOs.

I got tired of carrying my camera around, so I didn't take any pics the next day...just kinda wandered the strip, gambling, drinking & eating.

We took I-5 all the way back through Cali (not much to see really), then cut over to the coast in Oregon. The fall colors were amazing, even at a blurry 70+mph.

By the time we got to the coast it was typical NW weather the rest of the way home...rain, rain and more rain.

Aside from one speeding ticket in Nevada (90 in a 70) the entire trip was an A++. There is nothing like driving the GTO cross-country.

Phenomenal, that Yellow Jacket road sign...FTW!! last I saw that whole deal was canceled, had I secured an 06 as planned I would have paid more attention. Great deal, how many cars total showed up? Was it the race school doing hot laps or you guys got to?

How do I get a shirt or are they for members only?! Might have to make a call to Pete...

There were originally over 150 cars signed up, then it was canceled. But a bunch of us still wanted to do a road trip and party in Vegas, so we did it anyway. LS2Greg coordinated the whole thing...he's the guy in the cowboy hat. I think we ended up with about 40 cars.

I don't follow NASCAR myself, but as far as I was aware the cars doing hot laps were actual NASCAR drivers. Might have been a racing school though...who knows. And no, we didn't get to take our goats around the track. But one guy drove his car over to the pumps and managed to talk someone into letting him put a few gallons of racing fuel into his GTO.

You can probably still get a shirt. There were quite a few left. Shoot a PM to Justice Pete or LS2Greg on the other site.

That's who was there when I was running with Andretti but I thought the Gordon school ran there as well?

Hey Jeff! Humbler told me about these forums and I just wanted to stop in and say hello.

The Goatrun was indeed a blast! It was awesome meeting you, and I hope to see some of you other guys out there for the 2008 Goatrun. I'm tying up some loose ends with the last one and will be starting on the planning for '08 very soon.

I didn't stay at the Clown Motel. I took that pic more as a joke, being that I was the creator of the whole clown-avatar thing on the other site.
