Default Selling Pontiac, need advice.

Hi all,

After many years of enjoying my LeMans, I've decided to move on. I've been toying with the idea of selling it for almost a year, so this is not an impulse decision. I'd like to own other cars as well.

While my 1972 LeMans is far from perfect, it's a great car. I am the second owner since 1998. I have the PHS documentation. I restored it cosmetically in 2003-4 and replaced the 350-2bbl with a mild 400 with 4bbl. It's a blast to drive. I've made a number of changes to improve the cars performance, handling, safety, and reliability. I built it into a fast and fun daily driver.

So here is my quandary, the car is far from perfect and while it looks good, It's a 20-footer. It has cosmetic issues, including a little rust bubbling up in the usual A-body places. In addition, there is rust forming around the vinyl top trim due to negligent install. It didn't really start to show until about 5 years after the install.I realized the idiot used a razor to cut the material flush and cut into my paint. There are also scratches and chips from driving. Since 2008, I've put about 4000 miles on the new motor and trans. I have TONS of receipts. The interior is also redone and much nicer than the paint. This isn't a professionally-restored car.

I will post some pictures, but from those who have owned many more cars than me, is it worth addressing those issue before trying to sell or would it be a "wash"? I imagine that a competent bodyman would be able to touch up/blend those areas without repainting the whole car.

Once I have some photos, I will post an ad here as I want my fellow Poncho guys and gals to have a chance first. If there isn't enough interest, it might end up on evilbay.

I appreciate any thoughts and suggestions! Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a cool car - What's your question?

I dont believe blending 10 year old paint will work out very well.

I would detail and polish car as best as you can and avoid quick paint fixes.

That's what I would do. The buyer may have a totally different idea of what they want to do with the car.

Good point. I'll take some pictures and see if there is any interest. It's kind of like remodeling a house you are going to sell, the new buyer does not have the same taste and may have very different plans.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. If anyone thinks different, I'd love to hear their ideas. I've been leaning towards selling as-is, since that means less to do!
