Front Wheel Opening Flare removal
I started the front valance removal and repair process today (original plastic) and discovered the right flare is cracked at the front lower where the bolt goes through the hole. Are there just 3 screws that secure the flare to the wheel opening? 72 T/A

There are two bolts securing it to the fender that have to be accessed from the engine compartment, one bolt at the bottom attaching it to the center spoiler, and three sheet metal screws attaching it to the wheel well opening.

72 Front Spoiler
Ramair....I am installing a repop of the 72 valance along with an oem front spoiler..I was wondering what length are your spoiler install bolts?...just a curious detail I am trying to find out...my car had a service replacement metal valance and they were to cheap to add the spoiler!...only if it happens to be convient thanks!!!....they may be the common 7/8'' thread length or perhaps longer?

7/8" length. Interestingly enough, the spoiler bolts are bigger then the valance bolts but they're the same 7/8" length Spoiler Bolts Valance Bolts |

spoiler & valance hardware
WOW!!...Thanks Ramair!..the assembly manual shows 2 differant screws for assembly..but it is what I thought, it was assembled with the same common bolts (....314) as used on the fenders etc...since I had a metal valence installed, I determined that my 72 grill to bracket screw course thread hardware was what they probably used, and I am right!..those valance screws should match your grill to brkt. also...at the ADK Hardware website I was able to match them to 1969 Camaro grill screw...thanks for your help on this..I am good on all my front end reinstall!!

POLY. VALANCE
RAMAIR...I was wondering if your poly. valance has a hole for a bolt to go through when the parking lights are removed?...in other words, when you remove your parking lights, does the valance have a bolt hole so the valance secures itself to the small bracket located on the front inside of the fender?...does the bracket have a u nut or not?...I am trying to determine if 1972 fenders used that bracket or not to secure the poly. valance to the fender?...obviously a poly valance mounts also to the lower edge of the front bumper (one way to tell a 71 to 72 bumper,72 has holes drilled underneath)..your help is most appreciated!!

thanks Ramair!!..interesting...so for 1972 that lower front fender bracket serves no purpose....it is only used for the metal valance

Valance & Wheel Flares
I am putting my repaired front valance and wheel flares back on. I am missing a couple bolts for the access panel. Where would be my best source for these?

repop vs. orginal hardware
these are just some of the original style GM bolts available...door hinge bolt,1/2 & 7/8bolt,fan shroad & front air dam & u-nut that are available...I am not a head bolt markings kind of person and I do save the originals...its just that when I finally install my new painted front sheet metal I would like new hardware...ADK HARDWARE is a good source for original style cage nuts and other unique bolts...the head bolt kit I purchased just for a new negative battery cable mounting bolt...although I see that they are now offered separately on EBAY,it figures! |
