I paid $5000 for this 71 T/A back around 92' It was either 70 judge or the trans am they were the same price. The trans am won because it had the 4 speed and 455 H/O
Kinda wish I still had that one

My 1st Pontiac was a 69 bird & thats when I fell in Love with the Pontiac line. I'd been looking at GTO's but found the 69 Bird . I bought it for $ 1100.00. Almost 2 1/2 years later I was in the Pontiac dealer trying to buy a 73 GTO 455SD. After 6 months of waiting & trying to get it I ended up taking a left over , a demo that the owners son had been driving. But they gave me a good deal on it as it had 8400 miles on it . I paid $ 2500.00 out the door , that was tax included. The price on the window sticker was $ 5400.00. Not what I wanted exactly but now I'm glad I kept it. Sold it once in 76 & bought it back in 77. I didn't want any one else to have my car. I found it for sale at a restaurant in the next town. Took me 3 days to buy it back. Got it back for $ 1500.00.

I paid $1,200 for this car......a few weeks ago.

No keys and it wasn't running - PHS solved the keys problem, battery, starter & a new wire for the distributor cured the running problem.

1973 bought my first car for $650 from the original owner. It was a 1969 Tempest Sprint with 57,000 miles. A 3 speed manual transmission on the floor with Hurst Shifter and a HOOD TACH! It had the "SPRINT" stripes on the sides and if I recall correctly a stripe over the length of the hood, over the tach, the roof and deck lid. Never saw another one since. Sold it a few years later to buy my first GTO, a 67 hardtop. HO 400, 4 speed, 3:55, rally gauges, wood wheel, console, rear speaker. An all original car from from the original owner with only 21,000 Original miles. And it was Black with black interior, MINT Condition and All that for $1,100 dollars! Sold it with 65,000 miles in early 1980s Third car, a 1965 GTO convertible, bought in 1976. 160,000 miles and 9 owners! Bluemist Slate, black interior, automatic. Paid $375.00 for it AND I STILL HAVE THIS ONE Restored it in mid 1980's.

Well, i just started buying muscle cars when they were pricey….bought my first 65 Corvette in 94 which cost already as much as they cost today if you adjust for inflation…i think that you can buy great cars today really cheap that will be worth a lot in 25 years…just think about 90ties ZR1 Corvettes, Camaros, Cadillacs…if you adjust for inflation they are not more expensive than you muscle cars were back in the day. Think about the value of a dollar in the 60ties!

judgert: late getting back to you....I don't have the car anymore it was wrecked in a head-on when an uninsured illegal crossed the centerline in front of me.

It was an original 3.90 posi.

In '85 I bought my current '67 GTO, no rust, $2500. Reman 455 with rebuilt Muncie.

George

1978 purchased a1967 lemans 326 power glide. Burgundy with parchment interior. Paid $800. 1980 purchased a 1971 formula for $1,000. Drove it for 2 years thinking it was a 455 HO. Silly 17 year old. Rebuilt the motor 2 years later and found the motor to be a 350. It still ran good. I put a tri power on it and kept it until my marriage in 1989. Sold it for $2,800 to go on a honeymoon. 1994 purchased a 68 convertible firebird. Had a 400 4 spd but was originally a 350 3spd car. Paid $5,200 for it and I still have it. 2013 purchased a 69 Judge for $36,000. A real Judge with a real date correct ram air III. Everything is correct accept the carb. Love my pontiacs.

Default 62 Grand Prix and the one that got away

Dads 62 Grand Prix was purchased in the mid 70's rust free with original paint for a healthy sum of $300.00 The one that got away was in 1987 the Royal 1962 Catalina super duty motor trend test car was for sale in my local newspaper for $5500 and I was 18 years old and that might as well have been $1,000,000 to me. I did call and have a nice talk with the owner though. If I had only been a rich teenager. At least the car found a good home.

Bought my 1st car in 1984... '66 2+2 for $250 the 421 ran great.

Bought a '67 GTO 4speed...drove it home for $650 back in '85.

Bought a pretty nice 50th anniversary '76 Trans Am(400/AT) for $800 in 2000....in fact I used to never pay more than a grand for a T/A....the good old days

My dad bought a really nice '64 GTO convertible for $750 back in 1976.

in about 1980 there was a '69 Trans Am sitting on a crappy little car lot with $1695 shoe polished on the windshield.

My dad had a dealer's license in the early 70s. I bought many of my cars through the auto auction. I went through a number of cars that I kept only a few weeks or a couple of months, but some I kept for years. The ones in the list are cars I kept at least six months.

Incidentally, roughly one month after I got my driver's licence (late July 1973), the Arab Oil Embargo hit and muscle car prices fell through the floor. Muscle cars were going through the auto auction for next to nothing, and Pintos and Vegas were bringing premium money. It was a strange time.

When I first got my license, I drove one of dad's lot cars, an early 60s (62, I think) Falcon Sprint with a 260 3-spd. I didn't list it because it was dad's car.

The 68 Torino GT convertible and the 65 GTO tripower were bought when prices were the lowest, roughly late 1973 or early 1974.

1968 Torino GT convertible, 390 4-spd - $275
1965 GTO, black tri-power 4-spd, no options - $200
1967 Firebird 400 4-spd, $300
1964 Buick Riviera 425 dual quad, $550 (very low miles)
1969 Firebird 400 4-spd, $300 (orbit orange)

The car that truly got away was a pink Dodge Challenger with a 440 6-pack. I wanted to bid on it, but my dad told me I couldn't park it in his yard. I don't remember the final price, but pink cars weren't in demand in the mid-70s, even if they did come with a 440 6-pack.

Bought my first 1964 GTO in 1969 off of a Chevy dealers used car lot for $850.00. It was a Nocturne blue with Tripower, 4 speed, with factory tach and had 65k miles on it. My payments were $38 a month for 2 years. Oh the good old days!

As a kid, I remember standing around a Chevy dealer lot in 1969 while my father insisted he was not going to pay $100 a month for a new car. By the end of day he was the proud owner of a Butternut Yellow 4 door Impala sedan. Black cloth with P/S, A/C and manual drums, 327 and a 'glide. Black wall tires on yellow wheels and dog dish hub caps for $99 a month.
Across the street at the Chrysler dealer was the blue '69 Barracuda convertible that my Mom wanted.

In 1989, I bought a '71 LeMans Sport hardtop coupe for $1300 (sold in 1991 for $2100).

In 1995, I bought my current '71 T-37 hardtop coupe from the original owner's granddaughter for $700 and drove it from Syracuse, NY home to MD.
