Hi all

Bought the Scarebird brackets awhile back and recently bought the rotors and calipers. Was wondering if anyone else had done this conversion and what master cylinder and proportioning valve they had used. I would be interested in what master clyinder would bolt up to my factory booster. It is silver in color so I believe it is the Delco Moraine version.

I've got a set of his brackets also but haven't done the conversion yet either and still haven't decided which '63 Cat is going to get the discs. I'll just be watching this topic and hopefully somebody will have some experiences to share.

I will be watching this topic also. I have been looking at getting the Scarebird brackets for my 62 Buick and am looking to hear about other peoples experiences with them.

What do you think of using a complete booster and master assembly for a 67 Grand prix?

My son is a brake tech. He said you would probably have to use the 68-72 spindles also in the swap.

With Scarebird's brackets you would use the stock spindles.

I looked under the find tab as Pittsburgh64 suggested and didn't find the info I'm looking for. Pittsburgh64, in that shot of your car under the hood with the dual resevoir master cylinder, your booster looks identical to the one in my '63 Grand Prix. The dual resevoir your using is the one meant for 4 wheel drums I take it. I have the Scarebird brackets to use my existing spindles, Caddy rotors and the GTO calipers to do the conversion. As I understand I still need the dual resevoir disc/drum master cylinder and a proportioning valve. The proportioning valve is easy, everybody sells them. Would the linkage and mounting bolt pattern for the 67 Grand prix booster/master be compatible with my car?

Gentlemen, other Pontiac customers, mainly guys with 55-57 Pontiacs, have first tried to use the original master, with some success. The only issue is that you need to watch the fluid level carefully, as discs use the same pressure as drum, they consume more fluid as the pads wear. One nice thing about this approach is that it cost nothing over the cost of the brake fluid.

I bought a "deep hole" master cylinder for a 67 Grand Prix with front disc and rear drum. It looks like it will work with my original booster on my '63 Grand Prix. I have all the parts except the proportioning valve which I've ordered. I'll update when the job is complete.

Well so far the rotors and calipers are installed. The hubs had to be turned down to fit the rotors. The original wheel studs were too short so I replaced with longer ones which entailed drilling out the wheel stud holes in the rotors slightly. I had a machine shop do that as well. For brake lines I used the lines for a '70 GTO. Once the minor machine work was out of the way the Scarebird brackets, rotors, and calipers went together very easily. I'll mount the master cylinder next and I'll have to custom bend a couple lines as well. I'll update again later.

Well, the job is done and works quite well. I used a master cylinder for a '67 Grand prix front disc brake with a "deep" hole to match up with my stock booster. Original spindles and hubs (hubs had to be turned down slightly to fit the rotors) Caddy rotors, GTO calipers, GTO brake hoses, combination valve and bracket from Master Power Brakes, A few custom bent brake lines. It stops beautifully. Here's a few pics.
