Another "Value Guide" wrench: IIRC "most" value guides add 10% or more for A/C etc...which is whole mother of a level of debate as to current purchase desirability.

Same for "other" optional equipment: Perception vs reality of purchaser value and willingness to obtain.

dont know why everyone knocks the MT in traffic, I have only owned 1 AT car, I daily drove my 1965 SS to high school then to the first 2 years of college, both commutes had their share of traffic (college was near downtown so if my class got off around rush hour... forgetaboutit)

I usually would just shift to neutral and coast or lightly hold the brake. No big deal

But there is no feeling (at least for me) like rowing through the gears, especially when you can really get on it, like a freeway on ramp

Unless it's literal creep forward a car length at a time for real long periods - I agree with you.

I've driven manual transmissions in major cities all over - Brussels Belgium, Munich and Frankfurt Germany, Salzburg Austria, Zurich Switzerland, etc...

Here in the states - I used to have a 30 mile commute to work at the Pentagon with this Pontiac Ventura with a floor mounted manual. My wife had a Camaro with an automatic at the time - but I enjoyed my car more.

Drove manual transmission cars in and around Chicago, Milwaukee, Indianapolis.

I've had our current Camaro and GTO in rush hour in Minneapolis/St. Paul many times.

If you drive a stick long enough - you don't even think about having to step on and off the clutch - you just do it - it's "automatic"...

Lost of good information here. The car that was under consideration at the beginning of the thread is no longer an option. The seller has decided not to sell the car and wants to hang on to it for a while.

On to car number three. Gotta find it though.

Details????? Inquiring minds wanna hear details.

My parents bought a '67 2+2 new with a hood tach and a 4 speed .....that is the car I rode in in when I came home from the hospital when I was born in '68... This GP has sentimental value to me.... I'm a car dealer by trade..... but this GP and a couple of other cars will be with me until I'm dead...

Yea....it's the right car....right color etc.... the only thing its missing is a 428 ...... its got AM-FM...gauges....posi....8 lugs...manual steering and brakes...special order car.... all the good stuff.... its a documented original paint..... original sales contract....order form etc....... It now has 76,000 original miles.... have the original skirts for it.....I lucked out.... paid 6k for it in 2008..... bought it from the original owners son who lived in San Jose....its a Pennsylvania car and has the rust to prove it but was garaged and in pretty much continuous use
its entire life.......... very thankful to have been able to obtain it... Right after I bought it though.....I got some 4th gear scratch out of it.....with the fender skirts on it....it could probably use a new clutch as it chatters when it gets hot......its the original one though....and I'm too cheap and lazy to throw a new one in it...

I dig it. We called it The Batmobile.

Short story - My parents '67 GP was a Tyrol Blue w white vinyl top and pearl white "parchment" and black interior. It was a disc brake car, 400' 4 bbl, Automatic. This was around 1969, and this GP was used as a tow vehicle for the family '62 Catalina B/MP drag car.

The GP was equipped w Air Shocks to adjust ride height when trunk filled with tools, slicks, and interior passengers, etc.

Installed all equipment w Dad: the Tow Bars, Air Shocks, Free-Wheeling (MNW Brand?) Hubs and Tow Bar, and much more...on both @ 7yrs of age...

As to the GP, it was a beautiful interior w black dash and carpet, with the door panels, headliner and seats in that beautiful "pearl white" parchment interior, which I personally scrubbed semi-annually to remove the nicotine and general grime. Although both parents smoked, which i received 2nd hand via the "Astro-Ventilation", that white interior was kept military inspection clean, as was the white vinyl top.

I prefer them as built with the fender skirts...and love this one year only GP design...taillight "slots" like on our '67 GTO...

Good Poncho stuff, for sure.

Congrats on your clean, creme puff. It's a sweet looking machine, which you obtained at a bargain price for sure.

Edit: BTT the family '62 Catalina B/MP drag car and '67 GP were both Automatics!

The one thing that gets me with a 4 speed that I dont get with an auto, is that with the 4 speed I have to think ahead of time about what roads Im taking. I know for some people it doesnt matter, but for me I always found myself having to plan in my head what routes to take, routes that would be easy with the clutch and have minimal stops. When I jump into an Auto car, I never find myself doing this. I just go about my normal routes without any question.

Ya know in some other country's you need a special lisence to drive a manual, kind of like a motorcycle endorsement.

ever been behind someone at a stop on a hill, boxed in with a car behind you, and said car in front is novice clutch person, as they get closer, and closer, and closer to your grille, nowhere to go? maybe the special license has logic!
