Oil companies make their own blended oil. Conventional with some synthetic added to it. I used to buy Wall Mart oil and make my own blends with the same brand of oil. Never a issue. I have run straight 20-50, my blended oil, straight Dello 15-40 and the engine from 1990 and countless 1/4 mile passes is still running strong. Well, 'straight" also means there is Lucas in the mix too. I have always ran it and plan too with the new engine.
I think it helps with cold starts with the thicker oils I run. When you use Lucas it leaves a thin film of oil on everything. Even the distributor, its noticeable when you pull it. The new engine is filled so I planned on running a full synthetic 20-50 or 15-50. Red Line or Aimsoil. But this sale came up so I will start out with this conventional VR1. But will use a quart of synthetic Lucas. I think the most important thing about oil is changing it on a regular basis. Lots of opinions, creates some good discussion around here which is always good. BTW, transmission oil is blended too. B&M Trick shift is just Type F with 10% synthetic added to it. Made my own for years. |

I guess no good deed goes unpunished. For those of us that have engines built for 20w50, the notice of the sale was appreciated. I set clearances on the street GTO tight and it prefers 5w30 while the drag GTO clearances get along very well with 20w50.
But that's not why I'm posting. Received my oil today special delivery from the postman (Curse Amazon for using USPS) and the Valvoline box was delivered in a hazmat bag inside a very large postal box. Seems the Valvoline contents drained out of its box and soaked a bunch of letters and parcels in the delivery truck. One jug only had an inch of oil left and the other maybe 3" left with the third jug intact. Note the split at the top of the jugs -- even with weak jugs, there had to be a lot of force applied to break the seam. Pretty obvious that the box was at least on its side and possibly upside down in the mail truck.

Ouch. That sucks. But that's what happens when you ship fluids via USPS.
We received our four cases today with no incident. I guess having two 'fulfillment centers' less than fifteen miles from our shop must help.
We've had other stuff leak in shipment from Amazon, though. When we reported the leakage, they immediately shipped the replacement via a different carrier. I think the original carrier who damaged the bottles was the AMAZON delivery service and the replacement was sent via UPS. This shipment was via the AMAZON delivery service. |

I'm running Brad Penn 10w30 in my 68K original mile W72 400. I need the zinc too, but even if this engine we my old pump gas 455 with a flat tappet cam making close to 500-HP I'd still be running the 30-weight and not the 50-weight.

About 50% of the liquid items I order from Amazon and delivered by USPS are in bags and leaking. Last time it was hydrogen peroxide ... but noticed that cap was loose, so that's on Amazon.

My delivery came in amazon boxes and was delivered by amazon. Week packaged and no damage. I’m guessing it depends where you live as to how it is shipped.

Mine showed up in good shape. Had my doubts living in California. Shipped it to friends in Oregon last time, was kind of a pain.

Mine made it to my house today - with a big oil stain on the box. I think it leaked out of the middle bottle. Couldn’t find the leak, so I wiped it off and put it away.

My case of Brad Penn (Penn Grade) oil was delivered by Amazon without incident. I've only had one issue with Amazon that was never rectified, when they shipped an electric house fan via USPS. It never arrived. I filed a complaint with my local branch Postmaster General, and she told me over the phone that the truck assigned to deliver my package was never at my address, let alone at the time it was listed as delivered, per their GPS tracking. She said she would follow up and get back to me. The next day my trouble reporting ticket was closed. She never called and never returned any of my calls I made in the following week.

Does anyone have any examples of engine damage being caused by oil viscosity in a situation where proper oil change intervals were kept? If one with a sheared dizzy gear occurred due to thick oil in cold weather it would be good to know if engine was revved before reaching temperature. Also noteworthy is whether or not the bypass valve in oil filter/filter housing was intact.

Track is at 4300 ft elevation. so far a best of 11.95@116. Suspension now getting dialed in...tubular front a arms with dual adjustable coil overs HR Parts n stuff rear bar and whole car lowered 3 inches.. |
