Default More Steering Column Paint Questions

68 GTO Floor Shift Column
Column had lots of overspray and I'm trying to restore back to Regimental Red.
As I stripped the overspray off I found the original red over a black base coat.

Exposed section of column is Regimental Red, but was it painted red all the way to the firewall or just the base coat of flat black under the dash

Was the pedal and column support bracket natural metal or was it painted with overspray from the dash paint?

I just had my column restored, but it's black so I don't think that helps you. I would almost think your column would be red to the firewall.

The pedal mount on mine looked like it had a light dusting of black, I restored them and its all 60* gloss black now.

The mount for the column also seemed to be black, when they restored the column they restored this bracket too and its 60* gloss black which I believe is correct.

The parking brake pedal is black part way up and the rest is natural metal. Since mine had some light surface rust I had it soda blasted and did the same paint break, I used a satin clear over the bare metal and it looks very much like it would have been originally.

Hope some of that helps

Did you solve this? If not, I can go grab some pictures of my 68 red guts LeMans. It's a column shift, but I'm sure the painting process was probably the same

Here you go Ed, let me know if you need additional ones. This is a 31k LeMans that has never had anything done under the dash. Pretty obvious whoever shot the paint underneath did it from the drivers side as there is hardly any red on the passenger side of the column.

Thank you. Thats what mine looked like.
I thought it was over sprayed when the interior was repainted
