I didn't say Mecum bought it, I said they made a deal. Not uncommon. Sorry if my post wasn't clear.

But, I understand owner announced on FB it’s sold at Mecum.
Mecum site said sales price at 165k.
Hammered at 150k.

Seen on Facebook him ripping the bid goes on decal, saying he sold it. Was out of town, did not watch auction. Great price on a special car.

This is much more entertaining than a rusty gas tank.

I watched the black car on TV.

It shot up to $150k very quickly.
The Mecum boys spent another two minutes trying to get another bid.
No one bid.
The auction ended at $150k with reserve not met.
What?

What?
On the car as it rolled off, they put a "Bid goes on" tag on the windshield.
So.. it didn't actually end, but I didn't see the windshield sign on the short delay replay. Possible Dana bought it, and it just sort of "went away".

On the mecum website it weirdly said sold at $165 when you do a search of auction results for Firebird or Lot# S104. $165 would be the $150K sale price plus the $15K commission.

It no longer says that and lot S104 no longer pops up in any search mode.

Very suspicious!

The reality is it sold and has a new owner.

Maybe the new caretaker will keep this alive?

I doubt it.

I agree.

It was a really cool run;
Seeing the history of this car, and how it was brought back....
pretty cool stuff.

I came across this thread as a result of researching honeycomb wheels. I've spent the last 3.5 hours reading through it.

I am rather new to Pontiac's and the PY site.

Spectacular! I was familiar with the car when Steve owned it and it was posted on the Yenko.net site.

The detail on the restoration is over the top! I also found (thankfully) some of the answers I was looking for on the evap lines for my 71.

Thank you so much for documenting the process as well as catering to a case of OCD.

Regards,
Tim

Welcome to the thread Tim. We have all enjoyed following this story, which is an exemplar of what this whole site has to offer. But even better than the threads like this one are the friendships that have been forged over the years amongst the members here. The cars bring us together, but it is the friendships that keep us bonded. Hope to meet you and see your 71 at a future TA Nats or MCACN.

BJ

BJ,

Thanks! I thinking both events are on my radar for next year. I've already reached out to Steve Shauger about Vintage Certification. I have a list of small things I am wanting to address.

Allan has been great and very fair! I wasn't going to get HC's, but considering the car had them installed in it's first retail delivery..........I figure WTH! not the first car I'll have 2 sets of tires for.

Tim,

I seem to recall the sticker was still on the driver's door frame near the latch.
