Thumbs up Sweet!!!

Had two '77s...wrecked the first and bought another one just like it. Only had the first one two months. Love to get another. I never had a 4-speed. Are the bell housings really orange on those cars? Anyway...looks like a really nice one you snagged there. Enjoy!

I used the Thrush setup sold by Summit. It is very inexpensive for what you get. I have a lift and am a metalworker by trade so was able to tuck it in nice and tight. The welded connector is all wrong though - I fabbed a crossover box to eliminate this issue and allow the exhaust to tuck up an additional inch.

Who did you source the fuel tank through, what brand and how was the fit compared to stock?

Bob, I will PM you on those PYPES

BentwheelBob:

I like the looks of your system. Did you buy this as an all inclusive kit, or did you have to order the tailpipes, splitters, and X pipe separately?

I have ordered the SGF70 Pypes system with the transverse muffler and X pipe, and black chrome tips from RAMC. More to come..

I've never seen a shajesprvseal with the joint in the front. Crazy. Even back in the day.

I have begun this installation of the Pypes SGF70 transverse muffler exhaust system. After 6 hours of fitting, removing, modifing, and excessive cussing, I have the system about 60% completed. The X pipe, and everything forward to the headers was a good fit and straightforward.

HOWEVER..

The tailpipes are really ridiculous. Is it really that hard, or not cost effective to produce a tailpipe that is meant for the splitter tips? They will be correct for multitudes of '76-'81 Trans Ams... I hate all these extra cuts and joints caused by the adapters. Additionally, the drivers side midpipe that goes over the axle comes dangerously close to the brake hose. Again, this is an engineering blunder, and not one mention is made of this in the supplied literature. I have found numerous posts on other sites regarding this issue. This will take even more time to correct. Overall, I give this system a "D" for fitment and overall quality. It does sound nice, but is FAR FAR from a simple bolt on installation!

Those cats are for the EROD setup, so 75 and later cars can be legal in Cali. They come with the engine. Problem is they don't line up worth a s**t and required a bit of rework to fit correctly.

LeMans if LS'd will not need them.

I'm not sure if there's slight variations within the same kits or just in the cars, but the installation always seems be either so easy, or a nightmare. Mine spent 2 weeks at an exhaust shop. It was so bad it kept getting pushed to the corner and ignored.

Pypes, possibly SGF11....that number sounds familiar. All the tailpipe area, cut and shut several times and reworked to make fit, splitter hangers relocated to even be close.

I am going to have well over 10 hours in this system's installation, and 388 F-bombs. I have over $800 invested in the cost of the system, band clamps, adapters, etc.

I hope the improved sound, the tucked up appearance, and the performance increase will makes this remotely bearable.

OK, I just completed the installation of that SGF70 Pypes exhaust system. Total time for installation was 11.5 hours. I was able to clearance the drivers side mid pipe to allow 1/2" from the brake hose. I was able to tweak the main fuel line 2/3" away from this same pipe. I am still going to apply a high heat wrap to prevent the lines from getting hot. While the end results for the sound and appearance is good, I don't wish the installation on my worst enemy..
