Right now it looks like crap. I traded some parts 20 years ago for a cheap paint job. The paint job was done to help preserve the car until it could be done properly. The factory paint on my car was not too spiffy...

I have a bunch of pictures of it when new.
And I'm not spiffy with computer technology...

If you'd like to see pic's of it now I could send them from my smart phone...LOL I do know how to that!

Some more info on A/C compressors:

This info was posted in the 70-73 section regarding date codes on the compressor decal:

The decal off my original compressor read 120761 which breaks down to:

12-Dec
07-day
6-1976
1-1st shift

My car was built this same day according to the broadcast sheet.

I replicated the stamping on my repro decal using 1/8" number stamps. The original decal would not come off intact, even with a bit of heat.

This is the closest repro decal

Finally got around to replacing my yellowed washer jug. I purchased a new GM unit, in a modern AC Delco box. The exterior of the jug was identical, including the casted markings. However, the area where the pump goes in the bottom was much thicker than the original bottle, thus made it more difficult to start the nut onto the pump inlet threads. The finished product was worth the hassle, and no leaks!

Awesome T/A and a good thread, Rick. You've got a very sweet looking '77.
I'm deep into re-assembling a '78 rotisserie project, and some of the pictures you posted are going to be helpful references.
Also most helpful was hearing about your experience with the Pypes system. I've used them on some A bodies and one G body with issues. Now I know I don't care to try Pypes on an an F body.

it is solid, never been wrecked. Will get some more pics on here soon.
Needs quarter work. I have complete quarters off of a 79, experienced import sheet metal trauma when my brother was building a 73 Camaro...
Notice the numbers on the license plate?, that was a chance deal. New plates are out not likely to get that number sequence again...

I noticed the plate. It is fitting for a black, sinister looking car!

My car always had a weird squeak in the rear suspension. I thought it might be leaf spring bushings. It ended up being the rear stabilizer bar bushings. They were totally binding up on the bar in 4 locations. I removed the bar, and then cleaned the areas where the bushings rode on the bar. I then lubricated the areas with synthetic chassis grease. I put it back together, after refinishing everything, and no more noise at all.

I got a killer deal on these nOS honeys. About 2/3 the cost of repro. One of mine were missing the rubber grommet, therefore not mounted properly. It looked like it was never installed. Quality Control at its finest!

It was a nice day for a show..

Lots of comments on the tires. I feel I made the right move. I am getting bored with Radial T/A's.

Be careful there, I've some greases react with rubber, the rubber seems to melt into a pile of goo....
I like your tires, my only other comment is, when did you win the lottery, to buy them?
The originals on my car didn't hold up very well very long, of course that was 40 years ago...
Every time I see a set of those parking lights, I buy them, think I have 2 extra sets now...

Wink

I replaced a couple of parts last night. My front license plate bracket was tweaked, so this nOS beauty was installed after it was given a couple of coats of SEM trim black..

I had a blower performance issue, and an annoying rattle under the passengers side of the dash. The culprit was the lower A/C duct, as is typical with many of these 2nd gens..

I used the Parts Place repro duct, which is a very close, good fitting part. The original part was not a good design to begin with. It is a fragile, thin wall plastic, with not many mounting points.

The tires were purchased through board member Smallhurst. They were not cheap at around $366 a piece inc. shipping, but sometimes you have to pay for quality. I am very happy with them.

I am hoping that the grease does not eat those bushings. At least for now the noise is all gone!

I was reading somewhere, may have ben in old Pontiac magazine, about a Pontiac enthusiast putting a set of those tires on his "F" body at $350.00 each, thinking...wow...
Just look at those bushings, you'll know if there's a problem...

I cleaned the engine today, and replaced the incorrectly finished alternator fan, pulley, and nut.
