Butchered Bird
Another project followed me home on the trailer. 1972 base Firebird stick car. It has no interesting pedigree or history. It's only claim to fame (other than being a 1970-1973) is the body is in good condition. The elephant flares are riveted on fiberglass tubs with lots of bondo. Luckily the quarters were not hacked!

Tried posting on my phone for the first time. Pictures are rotated 90 degrees? Any help to prevent this would be appreciated.
These strange looking parts were in the trunk. What could they be for? |

They're the exhaust manifold shrouds.
The turned pics in my opinion is the phone camera makes the pic with a set 'direction' and when looked at on PY (and probably others) they get the dimensions/directions wrong. (did you take the pics with the phone sideways?) Basically you can't rotate the monitor like on a phone.

Good to see you saved it, Bob, what are the plans?
If the flares were here, they would be "filed" into the appropriate container relatively quickly reminds me of a '70 GTO factory 4554spd car, a good friend & I went in together in the mid 90's. Very similar distasteful body mods, even the front fenders were flared using a base structure of welding rod. parts in the trunk... the seller must have had a '71 HO car or engine @ some time.

As of now plans are for a TA clone. Not sure on the drivetrain. It could be classic Pontiac or LS3/TR6060. 17" Rally II repop wheels and lowered a bit. I'm going to be part shopping.
There just may be a little surprise under that beat up Formula hood! |

The top 2 are mounted on intake of a HO on passenger side. The bottom 2 on drivers side exhaust manifold. Inner and outer. You will see them in Ames...

A solid 70-73 factory clutch car is a great find and awesome build platform. Cool!

It was advertised as an automatic. When I went to check it out I saw the 3rd pedal. While under the car I saw the factory cut hole for the shifter and the subframe mounted bracket for the z-bar. The owner had no idea.

Those are the vintage Trans Am and IROC Camaro series flares from back in the mid 1970's. Neat vintage flares if you can somehow save them. They could be worth some $$$ to someone restoring one of the old race cars.

WOW, great find for that information and thanks much for the photo. There's a LOT of bondo over the fiberglass flare. Don't know if the flare can extricated without damage. They are being removed from the car though. If someone wants to come to my place and try to remove them in one piece they're sure welcome! I'm in the Kansas City metro area.😁

What of the notion of doing the front flares also and do the IROC look? Fat tires..... Outlandish color scheme, graphics, stripes, have fun... numbers on the doors!

Finally got around to taking some engine photos. This may explain the sheet metal
parts in the trunk.😁 |

Nice transplant! Not sure what's going on with fuel line?
Nice 71 TA Auto engine to have included in a rust free body. Most likely if rear is 12 bolt from 70 hope it's a COZ would be a bonus..

There's a reason I named this thread butchered bird. Everything that was touched on this car was hacked or half a$$. The body is not rust free but all of the important places are solid. Since this is the tech section I'll post some pics showing what not to do.

neat car...for sure
it seems the turned pic thing is a code read thing..i've figured out by doing a google, if you turn the phone sideways they button needs to be to the right before ya click or it will be upside down..i tried it..and it fixed it for me..i dunno if its good advice or not.....
