steering column
Will a 1963 big car Tilt column fit a 1962 Bonneville?

I'm no expert, but I'm guessing it would. The reason is that 61-64 Pontiacs with column shifted automatics without tilt all use the same steering column jacket, part # 5679291. Stick shift and console automatics used different parts. Tilt started in 63.

61 tilt
I have a 61 ventura with a tilt column. Are you sure it started in 63? I’m new to building Pontiac’s so I’m not an expert. I have my car in the process of building I’m looking to see if I have good pics of the column in the car.

And of course I do not have good pics of the column in the car. However I have not restored the column. Anyway I have seen 1961 chevrolets and Buick’s with tilt columns. Could someone clarify this? I have no information one way or the other.

1966 Parts book makes it look like 63 was the first year for Pontiac big car tilt wheel. But I would think it could easily be retrofit to a 61 and maybe older.

Thanks! From all the information I can find it looks like my column has been replaced with a tilt. Same color as the dashboard and to me-not an expert-original! Oh well, I like it and it will go back in. Probably not the only”non original part” anyway!!!
