1970 Executive engine options
I have a line on a 70 Executive 4dr sedan parts car. I need to decide on buying it sight unseen.
Was the 350 available in an Executive in 1970 or was the 400 the base engine? Thanks. Carmak |

According to the factory brochure available online here: http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/stati.../dirindex.html the 400 was the base engine in an Executive.

The base engine was the 400 2bbl 290 horse premium fuel.. Available optional engine were the 265 horse 400 2 bbl, the 350 horse 400 4 bbl and both 360 and 370 horse 455 engines. The 350 was not listed as an option on the Executive.

Yep. I used to have a `70 Exec. It had the 290 hp 400. YD block code with the 16 heads.

It was the 70 Catalina that was downgraded to a 350, the smallest engine in a fullsize pontiac since 1957. I think even certain Catalina models like a wagon or a convertible still came with a 400

Got it home tonight.
It's a complete 400 4bl (possible #16 heads) and it has disk brakes. That is about it. The cattle used it as a scratching post and the racoons got in the interior through a rotted floor and ATE the interior. I think I'm going to save the engine, thans and disk brakes. The rest is going to scrap. Carmak |
