Default ABS? Plastic prep?

Just purchased a reproduction rear T/A spoiler for my 1969. I believe it is made of ABS Plastic and want to know what steps I should take to prepare the spoiler for paint. Do I scuff it up with a scotch brite pad or use 400# sand paper prior to primer and paint? If not, what are your suggestions? Thx.

Is it primed or bare plastic? Check the whole thing for cracks first. Mount it on the car, check if the ends and pedestals need trimming or shaping to match the body and 1/4 panel clearance. Don't want to slam the deck lid and hit the quarters. Some of these come out of the box warped and they droop down in the center. Refer to the tech sheet for your primer to see what grit paper is recommended for surface prep. I'm guessing 400.

Clean it with a waterborne wax and grease remover throught the paint process. Don't use a solvent based cleaner, the waterborne will reduce static electricity.

Block sand the primer well with 400 using the same blocking rules as on a body. I use 2 alternating colors of primer, others use guide coat. On the final application of primer sand it with 600 for the color.

Thanks so much HoovDaddy. I will begin these steps in the next week or so.
