Default newbie with a 69 OHC/3 spd bench coupe

So I bought this coupe. Its champaigne colored. 2 door coupe with parchment interior. It was built in the last week of april 69 and sold on the 9th of september to a teacher in Tucson. she sold it to her brother on the 18th of july '87. has not been tagged since 2005. it has 116 K miles on it. if the stats are correct its a pretty rare car and very origonal. I'm thinking of putting a 12 bolt/428/4spd in it.. It runs and drives now but the OHC will be going up for sale as soon as the 428 is done.

You can buy a built car cheaper that you will build this one.

3 on the tree or the optional 3 on the floor?

Interesting that it’s a bench, which means it has the custom interior option (no bench with basic guts in 69). Funny that a buyer optioning so lightly his car would pony for the fancier interior.

It’s your car so you can do what you want of course but it’s a shame that such an unusual Firebird will become another big engine cookie cutter.

I don't think his car is a Firebird.

Hehehe.
I had a 72 Maverick that was a great car, total POS but that six cylinder would start instantly in neg 20 temps ... really weird. For some reason really good in the snow too. Could have been the spare block in the trunk.

I'm confused by your comment when we don't even know what model it is.

Must be a nice car, if it is all original you might want to hang on to all the original stuff if you ever get rid of it. New owner may want to bring it back to original. Meanwhile have fun with it as you plan.

Agreed, But 1969 Custom S models are few and far between anymore.

its a tempest with the 1 bbl/OHC/3 speed on the floor and a bench seat shifter.

It was bought new on sept 9th of 1969. it came off the line in the last week of april of 1969. so I think its a left over. I know its kind of rare but it was not so popular a combination back then either.

pictures to follow

I don't think it's a rare car with the OHC-6, but the floor-shifted 3-speed is probably rare. Sounds like a cool car.

Thumbs up Not Rare but unique

Out several 100 recorded OHC 6 Powered Pontiac's I have but one known 1969 Custom S.
Just a neatly Trimmed model that is seldom seen.

Wow, sounds like a nice car.
I'd be very tempted to leave that car just the way it is and find something less unusual to put the V8 into.

Don't think I've ever seen one with a factory floor shift.
