Painting dash on 67 GTO
My dash is black. The dash had scratches and chipped paint on it, so I decided to paint over it. I sanded the old paint and then I put three coats of satin black rust oleum on it and wet sanded between coats.
I wasn't quite satisfied with how it turned out, so I bought some SEM interior satin black paint and put two more coats on it and wet sanded between coats. I then wet sanded the final coat and now I need to buff it out. Should I have just painted it with a spray gun instead of spray cans? Any tips would be appreciated. |

Doesn't buffing satin make it higher gloss?

I researched satin paint. The internet said it is between 26% and 40% gloss, so I guess buffing will make it more glossy. It is supposed to be 60% gloss from the factory.

If you're talking about the paint between the dash pad and the base of the windshield it shouldn't be satin, it should be dead flat.
I believe that the rest of the interior paint, door tops, lower dash, should be closer to 60% gloss.

I painted the lower part of my dash with spray cans of black Lacquer and when dry I polished it until it was the finish I liked. You can have it as shiny or as flat as you like.

It is the part of the dash below the dash pad. I guess I will just try and polish it and see how it turns out. Thanks for the replies.

Painted mine with a black matte hood paint from Sherwin-Williams shot from a gun. Looks stock, I think.
