What I noticed in first pic was blue tarps hanging from roof - like it was a roof problem or something that went wrong. Pics and story got better after that. Way to go Doc.
Put me down for the 64 GTO hood and trunklid against the wall. I sold a super nice 71-72 Hood last summer after harboring it for over 15 years. Have another strait/solid hood that will need soda blasting inside and out. |

I'll have more time tomorrow to write the story. The more I demoused this dude yesterday, the more I fell in love with it. I think it went to the top of the list of cars to restore. I'll decide today about that, but I think I could restore this car in half the time it usually takes me, it's that solid. I know the pictures look kinda rough, but it needs a hood and decklid.......AND THE CARB .....(he swares he has it and by the looks of the barn he didn't throw anything away), and that's it.
Nordic silver with blue red yellow stripes and blue interior looks pretty good to me, anybody have a picture of a finished one to get me even more fired up? I forgot about the left grill, we poked a hole in it pulling it out of the barn that it sat in since 78. The car has 70k miles on it, was probably ran pretty hard, but it's all there but the carb. I gotta get out of here and get to work on it, but if anybody has any of the parts I need, and they would like to sell, e-mail me or call: dwentura@insightbb.com 217-617-2824 Thanks,Doug

Nice barn find! Just got back from GTOAA nats, and saw this thread. This was the third national GTO show I went to that had no 71 Judges. I was going to bring mine and before I got it ready to go my clutch went.
71 Judge barn find is so cool, and probably right in IL too? Early production Pontiac built 9/70 as I see from pix. Mine is a last week of August Pontiac built car and had the indent in core support rather than cut outs. That should be a great car to document all the factory markings as you go thru it. If you want a 270 carb that is a SR I have one dated 73, and an assortment of other 71 goodies as well. All the ram air stuff there? drivetrain? interior shots? PM me a list of what you need and I will try and help. Just looking at pix noticed the tail light should have fins, need some JT wheels too.

Maybe some one can set me straight here but i had thought that the strike in 71 started on the 15th of Sept 1970 and didnt end until some time in December, by the build sheet this car was built on the 20th of September???? Did they pull in management to try to keep the line going for a few days or what??
Awesome pics Doug keep em coming! |

Around Thanksgiving John said he knew of a copper colored '71 judge that might possibly be able to be bought. I bought the car June 29th, end of story.......just kiddin.
I've never met John, but he's a hell of a guy, we've been e-mailing back and forth weekly for 7 months. John works at a place that has 1500 employees, some time in the past one of his fellow workers approached him with the "we might be selling a judge". As I have gathered, there was this farm family with atleast 3 kids, 2 boys and a girl. The oldest brother bought a nordic silver '71 4 speed judge in '75,that night he basically totalled it. He went down in a ditch and hit a pole with the rearend, spun around and hit a brick wall right in the center of the front end. The car lasted until the following weekend,(I guess it was driveable) while drag racing a camaro the engine blew. It got parked then parted out at the family farm. In '78 the younger brother bought the twin to the car(automatic though), drove it for a week and was sure he was going to kill himself in it, so he parked it in the barn. I believe he was married then later divorced and gave the title to his sister. for safe keeping. He has since fallen on some pretty hard times, after talking with him for a few hours, he's lucky to be alive I think. The sisters husband is the one that contacted John. When I met the sister and brother-in-law, the owner was no where around. We went to look at the car, I couldn't believe all the stuff in the barn. The only thing I found missing from the car was the carb, so we started looking. We found the remnants of the first judge, both doors and front fenders, along with lots of other misc. Pontiac parts. The sister said I could have any of the parts I wanted even if I didn't buy the car, talk about nice people. Anyway, I explained to them that the carb was a valuable part of the car, and that it appears as though their family didn't throw anything away. She said she would try and go wake up her brother(the owner), but she wasn't promising anything. 3 hours later she showed back up with the owner. They brought with them the heads and exhaust manifolds and a tach off the totalled judge, but no carb. The owner looked around some and found a few other parts I hadn't found yet, but no carb. We loaded up the car, and I'll bet he's still looking for the carb, it might take months, but Ill bet if he ever had it, he still has it. Who ever thought up the alluminum caps over lug nuts sure wasn't thinking of me in 2007, I liked to died hand wenching that car on the trailer with one side having two flats When I was leaving the owner said you know what I paid for that, I guessed 1000,...he laughed and said nope 500.........That's the best I can do BOSS, not much of a typer.... Need: JT wheels Hood Decklid Flappers inside aircleaner Driverside mount for aircleaner(probably other stuff too) Passenger side exhaust riser tin(Im assuming it had one) Tail lights Insert between core support and nose(it looks like it should have one) Probably 50 other items I don't know about yet As I dissassemble this car I'll post pictures and throughout it's restoration I will also. I want to get it right, and I know you guys can help DW
