Talking Eventually moving to North Carolina

Eventually, within the next 3 years, my wife and I want to move to NC. I have been looking towards the west half. From Greensboro. west. I am not scared of house prices. Look where I'm coming from.

I was looking for something with a barn on it, an old dairy farm with a nice house etc.. That way I can have a HUGE garage with a lot of Pontiac's in it.

The reason that I am asking early is because if a job got offered, we would work out something to go today.

1. Am I gonna find a huge lot? Are there any left?
2. Nice areas?
3. Traffic? ( I guess it has to be better)

My company is out of Cary, NC, so I have looked at some of the areas. We have no kids so schools do not matter.

Any help is awesome,
Dave

Smart move getting out of NJ Dave. I'm thinking of getting out of DE one of these days. No taxes here but it's too dam expensive and too fracking crowed. Gotta go where's theres fewer illegals and less crime.

I live in NW Guilford County, a town called Summerfield which is about 1 mile from Greensboro,NC. I have been here all my life, it is a great place to live. 2 hours from the mountains and less than 4 hours to the coast. I would look for property in Reidsville or Eden area, there is a lot of small to large farms in these areas and property values are a steal for what you can buy for your money. They both are in Rockingham county which have a much less tax rate than Guilford county.

Will you be driving into CARY to the office each day?

If so thats a haul. In bad traffic on Interstates that are heavyily congested.

Try www.realtor.com for the best listings/online search tool without sales people calling.

NO!! The beauty thing of my job is that I am a field employee. Meaning I work out of the house and go where I am needed. Some days I drive 10 miles to work some 250. Just depends on whats going on.

I do know that the Triangle traffic is bad.

Thanks

I think you'll like NC. It was a move my wife and I never regretted. I see all kinds of real estate that would fit your bill when traveling west.
The mountains are such a nice place to visit. 3 Hours from me, but worth the drive. Such friendly towns. Kinda frozen in time.
I40 can be challenging where you want to live, but nothing to compare with what you have now!
When you get down here I'll meet you at Biscuitville and show you what a real country ham and ice tea SHOULD taste like. lol

Don't count the triangle out! You can go 20-25 miles in any direction and find what you are looking for. I live on 6 acres north of Raleigh near Falls Lake-seems like being in the mountains. If you come down let me know, be glad to help you.

Wake was in the top 8 choices. Really want a huge barn. That is the deal breaker.

Thanks for all of your input. I'm looking at homes and a tear comes as I look at home prices.

Tears of JOY!!

What is it with sweet tea in the south? God, that will kill ya. It's a crime against nature. Yeah, I'm a Yank and I drink it straight...... just like I do my Jack Daniels. Now tell me you add sugar to that. LOL

Good post.
I'm a young fella with no family.

I just signed up to take the bar exam (attorney) in North Carolina.
I have no family or connections in NC, but I'm planning on moving there...

I'll be watching this with interest.
I plan on taking my '67 GTO with me....and whatever else I can fit in it.

I visited once. Carcrazy is right. Just a few miles from the triangle in any direction is some pretty heavy country. Surprisingly heavy

And we'll have to introduce him to what biscuits actually are and get him started on grits. I moved down here from Ohio (was living in Columbus at the time) in 1995 and I have never regretted it. I'm farther down than the rest of 'em here, I live just under an hours drive north of Charlotte and love the area. There are some good deals as far as real estate goes all over the state with the amount of foreclosures there have been. Nice thing about being down here is there are days in the winter that are nice enough to get the ol' goat out and go for a cruise, and wear a T-shirt.
baron come on down also and see why I left the Buckeye and never looked back.

Yeah, the weather is one of the major factors in our decision. I grew up in New England. ALWAYS snowing. We are sick of the white shroud. NC has like 1 month of poor weather, and then the grill comes back out.

A.W. moving from OH-IO to NC, you traded Skyline Chili for Red Hot and Blue! HA

Grits, well, I have tried them. Nuff said. Plus there are rules for grits. Some say eggs others say sugar, and both are a sacra ledge to each other.

I moved from Buffalo, NY in '91. To this day, I still love western NY, but only in the summers LOL. (i'm spoiled rotten, now)
Generally here, there's 6 weeks more warm weather than WNY, and 6 weeks earlier spring. The temps are <averaged> 20* warmer here than back there.
And "a snow flake or two" can be seen on occasion.

Naw got to have butter on my grits and I forgot the greens, something else that is a southern favorite along with Okra. And of course the Bar-B-Que is the real McCoy, and the best is in Lexington. The worst we normally have is not so much snow as ice storms, everything literally shuts down and takes days to find a loaf of bread once the store runs out, but for the most part the winters are fairly mild. Well y'all come on down and get used to life being slower and more enjoyable than up there.
