You may have missed this one, as it only seems to come up with a "69 Firebird" search and not in the collector cars. With a $5289 MSRP and leather interior, it's loaded. Currently at $8100 with the reserve off. An ADV.ASSN.COL car, I assume it was built to showcase the options for potential buyers.

Really has nothing to do with the car itself.
When dealers elected to be a part of an advertising pool in their area with other PMD dealers - they were charged a set amount per vehicle sold.

Some areas were $5 per car , some $10 , some $15 - just depended on the area and amount/cost of advertising.

Whether it was a no-option Tempest, or loaded Bonne Vert, same fee per car.
Not all dealers were on these programs.

Not all cars were special orders, so I assumed Pontiac would build some heavily optioned cars to put in the dealers showroom to showcase the options. I would also assume they'd build some low optioned cars because that's all some could afford. Would you assume cars like these would be an ADV. ASSN. COL car?

The Optional Local Advertising Association Collections has nothing to do with the options on a car, or whether it was special ordered. Like BVZ stated, it's simply that the dealer was part of the advertising pool. I have a lot of invoices for standard GTO's, standard Firebird 350's, many with only a few options, that had the Optional Local Advertising Association Collection charge.

Its all about an advertising pool - being identified on TV , newspapers , magazines
I can't view pics on eBay - can you post that Invoice ?

To hit on what you're driving at a little , Dealers had to PAY for any car invoiced to them. Back in these days - PMD didn't build hard loads and require them to buy one for display. Dealers selected their own builds / inventory - or ordered pre-builds from Zone Stock Inventory. Zone Inventory cars were usually lower to moderate option content.

What you are thinking of perhaps - are PMD Brass hat cars, and PMD Display/Marketing/Advertising cars.
There is a different method all together to identify these on their Invoices and Build Sheets.

Those particular cars - when sold to/through a dealer - would be exempt from the Advertising Collections - due to them being "lightly used" cars.

Your guesswork is understandable, but incorrect.
Don't let that deter you from keeping this thread alive with more neat finds.
You weed out some pretty desirable and interesting cars / projects.

I pinged the guy and he sent me the PHS docs. He said the motor was rebuilt and has $15K in it. I have two of these so I won't even ask my wife if I can buy it. At $7K it's an absolute steal. Not sure of the colors. The PHS docs he sent me were low resolution and I can't tell, but it has an MSRP of $4316.
