Default '64 Rear Bumper Splash Shields

Were these plated or painted?

Color?

My brackets were painted Black, but no coating evidence remained on the Splash Shields when I disassembled the bumper so I set them aside.

Now I need to know what finish to put on them. Or were they left natural?

All help appreciated.

Both the 64's and 65's that I've owned and taken apart (dozens) were painted black. Not sure of plant were they were produced, but most of the cars I've owned recently came from Pontiac.

No Back-up Lamp option on my GTO.

Thanks Jerry.

Just to be sure we are talking about the same pieces, attached are pix of mine.

On closer inspection, I may be seeing some black but nothing compared to the brackets.

If there was a Plant difference, mine was assembled at Fremont.

Anybody else have info?

I bought a NOS in box set of b/up light kit . included were shields and were satin or low gloss blk.

my 65 car had back up lights o.e. as I recall the shields in kit were different. so I painted the o.e. ones and used them. really only wanted the lights and they were the same.

I know this thread is older, but I need one splash shield for my 65 GTO passenger rear; for some reason my car only has the driver's side shield mounted (and of course I need to get to the backup light assembly on driver's side since it is intermittent, and the fully-exposed passenger BU light is working perfectly!)

Do you/anyone have a 65-style (pictured in thread) one for sale? Thanks!
