I've used at least 8 sets of reproduction chrome valve covers on various cars. I have not had any problems with them leaking, and the chrome is nice. Its one of the reproduction products that easily meet OEM.

This is a timely post. I just received a quote today for a set of 389 original covers. $200-$250 depending on condition, and I did send a picture. Same price range for a 16" air cleaner lid.

I have a set or repros on my Safari, they do seem a bit thinner gauge and had to seal both sides using the rear differential gasket maker RTV to stop the leaking.

Im planning on doing the lid for sure

https://www.tricityplating.com/

I know some that have had work done there. It's good for us since they will pickup at events, like the Charlotte Auto Fair, where I'd be.

I had the valve covers on my 64 rechromed and it was $200 for the pair. Granted that was about ten years ago, but it hasn’t gone up that much! Chrome has held up we’ll, too.

Try this shop . I have used them for my 65. Work is exultant. there not cheap but fair and don't take forever.

https://customplatingspecialist.com/about/index.html

I have had the re-pops and they are thinner (metal) but chrome is very good.

The big difference. For me was . The rib through the center is not correct size. I don't remember if its wider or thinner . But its wrong .

I decided to give Inline Tube a chance because they list their covers as same thickness as the oem and chrome is excellent. Well I received them today and the thickness is not the same as oem and although the chrome on most of the cover is very nice, the chrome at the bolt mounting area is not smooth and has little pits. This is the reason Paul's Plating told me they need to spend a lot of extra time in this area. Because its narrow it is difficult to sand and polish that area. I still will not pay $750 at Paul's, but will search out someone else that is a little more reasonable. At least now when I do pay $300 - $500 to get them chromed, I will feel better that I had no other choice.

I had them do everything except the window trim and the polishing of stainless

Chrome I had done. air filter lids ,valve covers, grilles, headlamp doors, door handles.

work is very good . Terry (owner) goes to Carlisle, that could save you some shipping .

I had alum. trim and polishing of rockers done buy Marcus @ King of Trim . I will NEVER send him anything again.

did, I called Terry at Custom Plating today and he told me 16 weeks to get my bumper done and after January 1st there will be a 80% price increase. Aside from the outrageous price increase, when I question the time frame he told me he only chromes the small stuff. He sends bumpers out to someone else and that is the time frame they take. Very disappointing when you think the shop you are sending your bumper to be chromed turns around and sends it to another shop that you don't know or where its going. Then if you are unhappy with the chrome job, you are not even talking to the shop that did the work.

Seems no one has mentioned Keystone for the bumpers. That's all they do. 3 years ago, they were at $625.00 plus shipping and guaranteed for life to the original customer. 3 or 4 weeks at that time, BUT things have changed!!

I'm building a 70 T/A and parts and services I have found to be slow getting service from . Every one I have talked to about parts or service is backed up due to Covid 19 .

May want to factor that in on your timeline of vendor service

did, I apologize if you thought I was addressing something you had said about bumpers. I was just making a general statement. As you said, everything seems to be jammed up.

Absolutely nothing to apologize for . I will post pics of my valve covers tomorrow. Hey ! I'm not a salesman for Terry's chrome shop . Just trying to help the hobby .

Buy the way you have posted here for years . We spoke about bumpers some time ago . Do a search on that .

BEAUTIFUL!

Been down the plating valve covers road before, last pair were over $250 to plate.
Glad my '71's & 72's valve covers take a custom mixed paint finish, not chrome.

Looks perfect. Is the motor going in the mail truck? That would be an awesome sleeper.
