64 Lemans Sport Coupe... Does anyone have this piece, off the car, so I can see how it attaches to the car. I'm stripping the car down for the painter, to save myself a few bucks. These pieces have to be removed. I've been told I need to take the vent wing out of the door, and told that I don't. I'd like to know what I'm doing before I tackle it.. Be nice to see what it takes.. thanks

I think you can search the archives for actual process as discussed before, but if I recall you need to loosen vent window frame to raise it about an inch or so to access last screw hidden under seal. Not that difficult but be careful not to bend trim piece

Thanks, once i got it figured out it went pretty easy. both vent assemblies removed. All the anodized aluminum and stainless trim removed. Going to the metal shop for straightening, polishing, and possibly to be re anodized.

Removing the old anodizing is NO easy task.

I removed the anodizing and polished my aluminum trim pieces, the beltline reveal moldings and the grille/headlamp bezels. One '64 was done in 2010, the other in 2017 and they still look good. We won concours gold for both cars, one by GTOAA, the other by POCI.

I don't understand the need to anodize these pieces.

Not that hard if you spray it with EZ-Off oven cleaner or drain opener. You just need to let the parts soak in a solution that contains sodium hydroxide (aka lye) as a main ingredient, which is all the Eastwood product above is. Should take all the anodizing off within an hour.

Yep. Ez off with EZ Off. 15-20 minutes it's gone.

Local company, Grafton Metal Polishing, has everything shiny off my car except the bumpers, which are being chromed. Close to 40 pieces. Not cheap, but they will remove the anodizing, straighten and professionally polish everything. With plenty to do I was glad to farm that out to a company that has a very good reputation..

+3 on Grafton's work - 3 on price!!! Obscenely expensive. I had them do my 4 aluminum belt line moldings on my 66 back in 1998 and it was $500 back then. I can't imagine what they charge now! Top shelf work, but you'd better have some really deep pockets.

Discount prices often get you discount work. They told me up front what it would cost, and for what I'm doing, I'm good with it...
