Unhappy Tire recommendation for 15 x 6 rally wheels on 68 Bonneville?

I did I quick search for tires in the big car forum, not much in the way of recent posts.

I just finished blasting and rattle can painting some 15 x 6 rallys. Now I need some tires. Given the 6 inch width, it looks like 215 is about the maximum recommended tread width. (I tried running some 235/75/15 some years back and they are ok on the rear, but not rubbed some on the front. That was on 6 inch width, and although they looked a little ballooned they wore ok.)

I do however like the taller tire to fill up the wheel well and avoid the lifted 4 x 4 look.

Now thinking of using a 215/75/15. Thoughts?

Also need recommendations for a manufacturer and model of tire. Very little available from what I can see for anything approaching a performance tire in that size. More of a light truck size. Raised white letter might be ok, but no problem with black-wall.

Likely not going to enter any drifting competitions or autocross with this barge. Car is a driven regularly, but try to avoid rainy days, so wet weather and snow traction are not much of a concern.

Recommendations?

I ran a 225-70-15 on my 1973 Catalina. A friend of mine runs 235-70-15 on his '69 Bonneville.

Would cooper cobra raised white letter look stupid on a big slow car? No interest in white wall or red lines.

IMHO, in the B body world, Bonnevilles are cruisers and Catalinas were the ones with an attitude. White lettered tires would look out of place on a Bonny.
These are the original Goodyear 3/8" whitewall radials on my 68 GTO.

I've gone with 225-70-R15 wheels and 225-75-R15 wheels and they didn't rub. I did replace the shocks, springs, and control arm bushings though as the car was super saggy beforehand.

yes!!!! You can shoot a little black paint on them, no one will know...paint sticks to tires surprisingly well..

I wanted to run the Coker J78's on my Bonnie ragtop but the 1" whitewall was just too wide for a late 60's car in my opinion (all my factory spares on fullsize cars are in the 5/8" range).

I've used three different tires that are currently available that are stock size (J78 was the top tire size in 69 and it is very similar to a 235/75/15. The standard 8.55 or 8.85 are close to a 215 or 225/75/15.

The best of the three is the Maxxis which I run on my bonnie ragtop. They are $120 at Summit and have a very smooth ride and the whitewall is 3/4" and very white. They drive beautifully, soft ride, low harshness, love them. I run 235's but 225 is also offered.

A good alternative is the Hancook Optimo, only $65 at Walmart. I have two sets on cars I don't drive much. They drive pretty good and have a nice look. Great value for the money. The pic of my Executive is with them, 225/75/15 (i believe they also make a 235)

The third should be avoided, Cooper makes a whitewall in this size and they ride awful, harsh and noisy. $80 at Summit. I had a set on my Catalina ragtop that are now being used as dock bumpers.

Yesterday I bought two General Altimax RT43's in 225/70/15's. 2 tires Mounted and balanced out the door from Walmart for $240. Look ok, ride so much better than 10 yr old bald Chinese junk. The rear wheel wells look a little lonely as compared to the 235/75/15. These should be good for another 10 years.

(Raised white letters turned to the inside.)

I have 15x6 ralleys on my 67 cat convert. I put 225/70 front and 235/70 rear. Cooper cobra jets from summit racing. White letters in.
I really like the sidewall look and the width is fine. Original looking set up/maybe a little more substantial looking.
