1968 Alternator
I’ve seen many an alternator on 68 pontiacs but this is the first time I’ve seen one with an open face?
The wagon has a/c and is from the west coast. I’m thinking this is not the correct alt. Seeing it has a double pulley Any thoughts |

Never seen one like that before. Was it possibly cut out by a previous owner? I can't tell from the pictures, but there must be something that holds the front bearing in place.

Looks like one that has been through a rebuilder where they used the original 10DN externally regulated rear half and slapped a different front half on it. The front half looks like a 5 spoke unit which could be correct for a 71 A or F Pontiac. Are there any numbers stamped on top just behind the upper bolt ear?

I’ll look for the numbers today..
The double pulley has to be wrong. I’m trying to find my book for the belt routing but I’m pritty sure it’s supposed to be a single pulley. |

Not surprised. Looking at it now, it does look like a 6 spoke front half which is what the repop fronts were fashioned after vs the 5 spoke. I would believe it is functionally similar to original, just looks different.

Is this something I want or need? Or should I pull one of my other cores to rebuild.
I think it’s cool looking but with my luck it will suck in a rock |

Keep it a lot of people like the open faced end especially for the 10SI alternators. Don't worry about sucking in a rock. The air is pulled from the back of the alt to the front. In other words the fan pulls air through not pushing it through.

With the double pulley it probably was from a Buick. If you don't want the pulley remove the nut and install your single pulley.
