Also the first time I’ve heard about a “subframe” on one of these. I had a ‘94, and I’m pretty sure there isn’t one. (Haven’t been under that car in a long time.)

I know its not the most popular Pontiac ever made, but what did they do to this poor 1979 Sunbird Wagon?

Except for the hood, I think that’s cooler than a sunbird wagon

I tend to agree.

I'm pretty sure that's an Astre....?
I kind of like those and I agree that the hood is the real negative, appearance wise. Could be kind of cool.

Corporate nonsense, 78-80 Astres were called Sunbirds.
The 'real' Sunbird was FWD. |

They only made the Wagons in 78-79 and yes they were renamed Sunbirds, just like the 78-79 Vega Wagons were renamed Monza's. But at least the Monza wagons had the Monza coupe front clip mounted on them. The only exterior difference between a 77 Astre wagon and a 79 Sunbird wagon were the grills (besides Badges of course) But the Sunbird/Monza wagons were the only Vega Bodied cars you could get a V6 in from the factory.
So none of the RWD 75-80 Sunbird's are "real Sunbirds"?

What happened to the guy on here who said his friend paid 6 figures for a numbers-matching Chevette? That guy would be all over this "one of one" gem.

What's wrong with rear wheel Drive? I tend to view the FWD versions as wrong wheel drive.

From todays Portland CL, rarest of the rare, you'll never find another:
62 Pontiac Tempest first year of the Lemans option has 196ci 4 cylinder wich is the 389 ci V8 with 1 cylinder deleted. So any Pontiac V8 will shoe in. And was my plan! But anyway the 4 cylinder has a factory 4 barrel and 2 speed trans axle. Solid dry car needs some rust repair in the left quarter in front of the rear tire easy fix! And has a few bumps and bruises. Car runs and drives but has no brakes "Fred Flintstone style"and need electrical work. I spent 15 years looking for the one! And bought this car 5 years ago with the Hope's of getting her up and running for cruizins and such. But have never found the time or money to get her out on the streets. Other hobbys have taken front row. Has clean Washington title. I also have the factory 1962 tempest service manual that came with the car $2995 obo

Just noticed this. Rear wheel drive IS the good stuff, FWD is wrong wheel drive. That's why I'm hesitant to call a RWD Sunbird anything other than an Astre. It's not intended as disrespect, it's actually the opposite.

Like someone with liver cancer saying "I'm almost 90% cancer free". Also, he sounds like a Mopar guy, ("please note I found the broadcast sheet") so maybe that explains his jaded opinion of how "easy" the rust repair would supposedly be. |
