Default Muncie VIN help

I have a '72 M22 with partial VIN 12N164861. Does that help identify what model car it came from?

Based on the VIN sequence, it would have been a ‘72 Camaro built at the Norwood plant. The last six of its VIN were 164861.

In those years GM assigned numerics to its divisions that are displayed as the first character of the VIN.

“1” signified Chevrolet.
“2” signified Pontiac.
...and so on.

Later when some vehicle assembly plants moved abroad, the first character in the VIN signified the country of origin. That practice continues today.

“1” was America
“2” was Canada
“3” was Mexico
...and so on.
