Pulley Puzzle
Hi, guys.
The 1965 326 engine that I'm freshening up is almost done. Can someone confirm the order of assembly for the crank pulley/damper. The picture shows the order as I found it at dis-assembly, but because the engine had been messed with before, I just want to make sure it's correct. Thank you, Ron. |

If I had a correct water pump pulley, it would become apparent which way the crank pulley gets assembled.
Unfortunately, the engine didn't come with one. Basically, it's the thin spacer ring that could go behind OR in front of the pulley. It was in front when taken apart as per the pictures above. Thanks again, Ron. |

The reinforcement ring goes in front of the pulley so they had it right.

Thank you very much poncho.
Now I just need to find a correct w/p pulley. |

Just a guess but for some cars the pulley for an AC compressor came as a separate pulley and not part of a three pulley set. I'm guessing that with the AC pulley the spacer was left out with that space being taken up by the A/C pulley thus keeping the balancer weight at the same distance from the crank nose.

You may be right. Some of the later crank pulleys I have or have seen use a separate pulley for the A/C and have a reinforcing ring immediately under the bolt heads.
The early design shouldn't need a reinforcing ring from the looks of it. |
