What brand rear axle housing/axles did mid to late 2nd gen T/A's come with? Brand name....dana.I'm trying to figure out what rear end set up I have. The is a tag on the axle housing I believe it has the serial number on it. But I want to know what brands came on them so I have a place start when I search the numbers.

The early '70s and later T/As all used the GM corporate 8.5" 10-bolt rear ends, no DANA rears were used.
Somebody could have stuck a DANA rear end in there at some time during the car's life. It's not all that hard to mount just about any rear on leaf springs by welding on some new spring perches, but if it has a DANA rear it wasn't done at the factory. |

I'm not sure what rear it is. Sometime this week I want to get the tag off the housing and search the numbers. Thanks.

If if is stock, 1978 and later vehicles may have the axle ratio stamped on the housing rather than two letter code(3 letter in 1970). Check there, might be hard to see if it is dirty or rusty. On 77 and earlier vehicles the two letter code is usually stamped on the surface of the right axel tube, which can be very hard to see/find due to road grime etc.. The code tells you what gear ratio, if it is locking or non-locking and what year/years it came on.

Thanks.
I decided to take a look at my build sheet tonight to check out the options that were ordered with my car. And on the build sheet it had the info. It is a positrac with 3.08's. Lookingat the build sheet I found out some neat things. For one the car was purchased with roughly 50 options. Many of which were the custom options. Like custom mirrors, custom brake pedal, special tail lamps, custom seat, custom dor panel. There's probably more special options on there that I don't realize. Another cool thing. I'm in New Jersey. The build sheet says the car was built and shipped straight to and sold in Jersey. The car was bought, driven sold to another person, and so on. And still here. There car had never lived in any state except Jeresy. I think thats pretty neat.
