Default 68 GTO Tape deck mounting A/C car

Does anyone have any pictures of how the tape deck mounts in a A/C car with the lower A/C plenum on the bottom of the dash. Was there a different part number for the lower plenum or did they use the same plenum and just drill holes all the way threw it to mount the tape deck. Also what did the hardware look like.

Same plenum was used. There was a rectangular area cut and removed from plenum below the ash tray to allow the 8 track mounting bracket to pass thru the plastic plenum and be bolted to the lower part of metal dash. There was also a back support bracket on the rear of 8 track. Will try to find and post some photos.

Those pictures are very helpful. Do you have a picture of the slot they cut in the plenum for the 8 track bracket. I have an original rear 8 track support but would like to see the front hardware.

Here's the only pic I could find of my plenum after I repainted. The rectangular opening and drill holes are as found when I removed during disassembly. I believe that the rectangular cut was as made by the factory for installation of the 8 track unit. I sort of remember that there is a guide molded into the plastic on the underside of the plenum for the rectangular area to be removed. I think I saw this on an uncut plenum from a parts car.

Your welcome. As you can see the factory did not care how the cut out area looked, pretty crude cuts IMO. But you can't see any of this once the 8 track is installed. Good luck!
