Distributor Hold-Down Bracket Finish
What was the original factory finish on:
1) Distributor hold-down bracket? 2) Bolt & washer? - Inline Tube sells a black phosphate bracket & silver zinc bolt/washer. - Some say bare metal, painted engine color - Some say silver zinc plated - Some say silver cadmium or silver phosphate Since Distributor was installed at engine assembly plant before paint, it would make sense that the base of the Distributor, hold-down bracket and bolt would have at least had some engine color over spray on it. Anyone have pix showing original finish on these parts? '64 + the same process & finishes or...? Thanks!

To me they always appeared engine painted bare metal ... often there is enough oil back there to keep them from rusting and I don't think I've ever seen a phosphate or zinc finish on one.
Looked through all my photos ... don't see one of a factory line with dizzy clamp visible. Someone has to have one. |

I could have sworn that I've seen pics from the factory recently that showed a bolt-in round plate that filled the distributor hole. The plate was painted engine color giving the impression that it was there when the engine was painted.. I'm trying to remember where I saw it. As for me, I blasted mine, painted it aluminum and called it good.

I blasted mine and zinc plated it. Hopefully I won't have to look at it very much

Previous threads say they (Bracket & Bolt) were on the engine when painted and the distributor added after.
