What is the update on this purchase?

Black on black deluxe, 455, 4speed with honeys? I would certainly welcome it into my stable!

It has been purchased. 51K miles, loading pictures has always been difficult on this forum.

Dear God I remember those days when people would bore holes in their fender for a keyed switch for an alarm system. I never did understand that and it seemed like every Vette had one. YUK!

Not only does it have the anti theft with the hole in the fender, the original owner went as far as taking wiring from the clutch safety switch, running it through the a piller into the headliner. From there he made a overhead console with 6 toggle switches that all had to be positioned just right for the car to start, that also powered a radar detector. You can't make this stuff up!

I used that same wiring, swapped in a 1975 Firebird dash insert c/w a rear defog fan switch, and used the clutch safety as my ignition kill switch.

Congrats!

Assuming it has been painted explaining why it doesn't have a hood bird or other T/A decals? It looks really solid and the interior needs some cleaning and ready for the road.

Any history or documentation with the car?

It has had 1 repaint back in the 80s. It was ordered with the hood bird. It has what I think is the PHS Documentation and not the build sheet. It's just on regular copy paper. It has a edelbrock q-jet, performer manifold, and long tube headers. All the factory parts came with it. The dash is perfect, front seats have some seam splits, the factory radio is the only original part missing. From the PHS I believe it was just a am/fm radio and not the red dot. I found iskenderian cam and lifter install instructions but no cam card. The original owner has confirmed milage is original at 50k. Car hasn't ran in nearly 15 years. The space saver and jack have never been removed until now, the trunk filled with water from sitting outside for months so I had to get it dried out.

I am currently repairing the butchering of wiring all over the car. The original owner was dangerous. When he ran out of trailer connectors he resorted to just twisting wires together and made a attempt at taping them up.

As far as preserving the dash pad what do some of you clean with? I have heard many horror stories of armoral causing them crack after applying. Also I need to clean the engine turned bezel. It's dirty but has not began to corrode yet.

I like vaseline. It seems to last longer and have had no issues with cracking.

Use almost anything but Armor-All on old vinyl dashes.

Is there scientific proof of the chemical make up of armor all that it damages vinyl?
I remember when I was a kid in the 70's my neighbor swore that using armor all is what caused the dash on his el camino to crack . He swore it off and stood by the above statement. When I started to drive I used the stuff religiously on the vinyl toneau cover on my pickup. Only thing it did was made it shiny. I have used the armor all wipes (I prefer the matte finish) on all of my cars for years and the only side effect I get is a clean, new looking dash. I guess I am lucky that it has never destroyed anything I own.
Being that I heard 40+yrs ago that Armor All is bad for a dash, I can only wonder if it is purely 'urban legend' at this point.

Vaseline, that is interesting. I guess it is really not to far away from being a leather conditioner, like lanolin.

I have researched this over the years, and the common consensus is that it takes the the plasticizers from the vinyl. It brings them to the surface. Those are the agents that keeps vinyl soft and pliable.
