12 Bolt Camaro Rear End Identification Help-1969 W/Disc Brakes
Bought a couple of cars from a guy and he also has a 1969 Z28. Thinking about making an offer on the Z28 but question this rear end. This rear end is not original to the car. He said it was bought in the late 80's or early 90's. I want to know if it was in a production car OR is it an over the counter unit OR is it simply a restamped housing. The casting date looks early to me. Also the axle tube stamping is suspect but I am no expert. Need some help here.

QX is a 3.73:1 Posi JL8 ( rear disc brake ) Camaro Rear. 4 leaf perch would be a Z-28 rear. A 5 Leaf perch would be a SS rear. HOWEVER , Typically the code reads the "prefix" first.
Example would be Q X 0 6 15 B . "B" is the Buffalo Axle plant. I have not seen a Buffalo rear in person, so I am not 100% sure on their methods but the other plants stamped as I did above in the example. Last edited by Formulabruce; 02-23-2020 at 10:37 PM. |

I had that same rear in my '68 Z-28. This one has a Jan 68 casting date on the pig. Still unsure on that tube stamping, but the rest looks like original pieces.
I used to take one rear wheel off at car shows so people could Gawk at it ! |
