On my last query I asked what the vent lines near the gas fill tube were on my restored 1970 GTO. Thank you for those who responded.

My question now is: Is this car safe to operate now that these vent hoses near the fill tube are not connected? If they have to be reconnected, how will I go about doing this if there are no connections on the fill tube?

Thanks,

Crabman Ed

Point Pleasant? I used to live in the Boro back in the 70's.

Ed:

I went and read your other post so I was up to speed on this issue. First, it sounds like you have the incorrect application tank. While you could send it back and take your chances, there is another more certain option.

I have a 70 with the same vented fill tube arrangement as you have, and know just how hard it is to find the proper parts for this application.

What I would recommend is taking both your new tank and the old one to a qualified shop to transplant the filler tube from the old one to the new tank.

Also, the metal U-Bend where the rubber hose goes to.. it corrodes VERY easily and should be checked for proper venting. Try not to damage it as it's virtually impossible to replicate.

The major "danger" of not using the factory provided vents is to actually cause problems with fuel delivery under WOT operations.
