Anybody know what you're supposed to use to glue these things in with? Got one for $10 brand new at the swap meet, but I don't know what glue to use.

I put one on my 70. It did not fit very well (or maybe it's me), but the directions said to put the glue on the top and especially around the vent openings or I think a couple of inches from each edge.

when you buy a new one it comes with a tube of 100% silicone sealant, I`ve used one before, used the sealant, came out nice!

Forrest -
What exactly was the silicone sealant you used? I need to buy some to install my dash cap. TIGER EFI - Electronic Fuel Injection for the Traditional Pontiac Engine. bill@tigerefi.com

The sealant works good for most of it, but weatherstrip cement is the ace product that will prevent it from lifting at the edges or tight contours. This is especially true if you live in the sunny south where the blasting heat tries to warp the dash cap.

you can buy the silicone at any hardware outlet in a small tube or a caulking gun style, . ge makes a good 100% silicone(clear), the weatherstripping glue can get hard and crack , the silicone is not affected by temperature and is and stays forever flexible!

I used one of these caps on my 70, it looks great and you can't beat it for the price! GE 100% clear silicone.
Make sure the old surface is really clean and degreased. Test fit the cap and make any MINOR trim to the vent cutouts, etc. Run a fairly thick bead of silicone all around the perimiter, vent areas, etc... Place the cap on and make sure it is tight and lying flat. This will ensure a good contact with the silicone. I held mine tight in place using painters tape, the blue stuff from Home Depot that doesn't leave a sticky residue. Let the silicone cure for at least a day before handling. They are a very acceptable repain OMHO. Don restored a 70 Judge at: http://home.rochester.rr.com/dchapman |
