I am currently installing a 455 in my 72 GTO. The bellhousing is currently painted the same as the motor. Is this correct? I thought it should be unpainted. Now is a real good time for me to fix this.

Bob,
The Pontiac bellhousings were natural alum. The problem I'm running across more & more with painted is bunch of less than ethical folks are out there painting their bellhousings with alum paint to hide small cracks. Not good situation & for that reason, I won't paint 'em. As a result, on cast bellhousings I've taken in on trades, just don't have a use for 'em unless they make it through the solvent tank & the spinwasher w/o cracks. As such, will usually clean incoming bellhousing while customer waits.
