Default Vacuum hose fittings/connectors

Restoring a 1978 Y88 4 speed.

While waiting on the engine to get rebuilt......one of the things I am working on is replacing all of the vacuum hoses.

There are two sections that use a tee. One is plastic and the other is metal. Is the metal one correct or a replacement?

My gut says it's a replacement and it should be plastic like the other one.

Another vacuum hose connector question:

There is a vacuum hose reducer in one of the runs. What does it connect to?
I haven't seen this reducer in any of the vacuum hose diagrams.

I've dismantled a few firebirds and trans ams and have never seen a metal vacuum fitting being used.

Unfortunatley I do not think anybody is making a vacuum hose kit for the firebirds, however you can buy individual striped hoses.

The striped hoses I'm going to get from AMES.

Have you seen any of the vacuum runs that have the "reducer"?

I have a lot of pics before I tore all this down but I don't seem to have a pic of that particular piece. I know it is in line with something but don't have a clue where it goes.

What's the quality like on the striped hose? I bought 2 different brands a while back, appeared to be same hose supplier originally. The stripe just rubbed off in hands and while trying to install, remove again.

From the research I've done.......Ames is closer to the original match than Inline Tube. I'm going to buy the Ames striped hoses in the next day or so and when they arrive I'll post the results.

The plastic T is aftermarket not factory. Teh rear carb fitting had about 4 nipples to tap on so not sure there is a T. There is a "restrict or" on the vacuum advance in some of them/

I did find where a reducer was used for the AC system. At the back of the carb fitting.

According to the repair manual, there is a tee in the system, but only with a 4 speed.

Not sure why photos are turned sideways after attaching.

The discoloured white t-piece and reducer match originals I've seen, depending on who supplied GM that week, black and white were used, have not see the metal.

I agree.......I don't remember seeing any metal tees on any of the TAs I've owned.

I'm going to search for a replacement for the metal one.

The white and green hoses are from Ames. The yellow one is the original from my TA.

I don't have any other manufacturers hoses to compare but they look good. I tried rubbing off the paint on the very end of the hose and it still looked solid.
