Default COOKIES

Made some TA cookies I know they look like headless TA screaming Eagles, but that’s how the cutter is made why I have no idea. The other bird is an ice cube mold. These are like a sugar cookie cut out so they’re crunchy but awesome in cold milk. What’s your favorite Christmas cookie?

Chips Ahoy if I'm dunking 'em.

Seriously though, my wife got an awesome Chewy Ginger Molasses recipe from one of our daughter's-in-law this year. Didn't expect to like them but they have proved addictive.

Worst part, wife's ancient Sunbeam Stand Mixer has been straining, she wants a new mixer. $300 KitchenAid probably in my future.

(1) Chocolate dollars
(2) Snickerdoodles
(3) Peanut butter
(4) Peanut butter with the Hershey kiss
(5) Sugar cookies
(6) Gingerbread

This year Christmas will be decidedly different in a number of ways. My wife and her siblings have split the various holidays; so that one hosts a holiday. We always hosted Christmas.

Since the youngest (currently) attending is now in her 20's, always a challenge to find games suitable (and fun) for adults. The current favorite is cookie decorating. My wife and I bake several dozen sugar cookies prior to the get-together, with a variety of molds, and assemble a good inventory of colors of icing, sprinkles, etc.

Those who participate (everyone except my wife and myself......we are the judges) decorates 2 cookies in a fixed time frame; 1 with a Christmas theme, and 1 however wished. Once time has elapsed, my wife and I judge win, place, and show; and award small prizes.

Seems to be very popular.

This year, with covid, there have been no family get-togethers; and will not be until all of us have had the vaccine. We do use Zoom.

MaryAnn - I like the Firebird cookies. Those would make a good candidate for advanced cookie decorating. I need to find a cookie cutter for those for next year. Any suggestions for a source?

Jon.

When I make snicker doodles I put Heath chips in them. The toffee gives them a little something extra. My peanut butter cookies get chocolate hugs on top. Those are milk chocolate and white chocolate swirled together kisses.

My favorite cookies are Kiffles.

Cholate chip and sugar cookies...... from Acme.

The only thing I get home made this time of year is my grandmother's fruit salad that I make. With real fruit, not that fruit salad stuff from a can. If anyone would like the recipe I'll post it. I was told by my mom years ago it wasn't to be given to anyone but.... she's not around anymore to tell me I can't.

Wife makes plenty of cookies, and that is good.

But, whoa, the local Italian Market just displayed an impressive spread of local made cookies and....i was impressed. Gonna try to get a green light there.

Edit: news flash: got the green light!

Just a little hint to those who like their cookies SOFT....put a slice of bread in the container with the cookies. they will get soft. Change out the stale slice for a half slice depending if you have any left. My TA birds are a crunchy cookie great with hot tea or ice cold milk and dunking.

Well, to have soft cookies out of the oven... cut back on the baking time by a couple of minutes. That will make them softer. As taught from my grandmother and my mom. But bread will do the trick too. Yeah, I had to learn how to cook seeing I didn't get married the first time until I was 33. I didn't want to starve to death. LOL

Christmas cookie baking is a several day project at our home. My wife and I both come from big families and both are mother's were legendary at Christmas cookie baking.

These photos are from 8 years ago when our daughter came up to help with our grandson and one of his best friends (who remembered baking christmas cookies with his grandma).

I don't eat any of the Christmas cookies (I'm diabetic and don't like them enough to eat meaningless carbs), so my wife always makes me some chocolate chip (which are the only cookie worth the carbs) at Christmas.

We have two neighbors with young kids that we always bring a large tin of Christmas cookies to. My wife flies all over North America for work and always brings cookies to the Delta counter at our local airport (she knows them all by name). I used to bring cookies to each of the ACD 5 stores that delivered my orders to my commercial accounts in northern IA and southern MN, but now only bring cookies to the office of my part time retirement gig.

I didn’t use the traditional cut out recipe, I used a sugar cookie dough. These are a very crunchy cookie great for dipping. Tape them to your hood?

You will NOT regret getting a KitchenAid! That thing could almost mix concrete! One of the best investments I ever made.
