There was a character on "That '70s Show" that had a Trans Am. The character was telling his friends that there was a difference in a Trans Am and a Camaro. The bad part is that the character was supposed to look stupid for believing that.

Only had a couple of people not know what my Pontiacs were but I have always had people misidentify my '65 Olds Cutlass (Hey nice Buick???).

My wife was always getting asked what kind of car our '69 Olds Toronado was, that one was really unique! Based on all the times being questioned about it, I don't think anyone around had ever seen one before.

Huh?......I always thought a Camaro was just a Firebird with a cheap Chevy engine in it!...... And a cheap interior and bland exterior. I guess I was wrong all these years.

That's what I heard a guy say when he passed my car, to look at a 69 Chevelle.

Had the opposite happen while driving my Dads 75 Formula to my girlfriends house. Some kids on bikes told me "nice Firebird !"

On 2 occasions I have had people come up and compliment me on my "Gheeto."

The first time I was so confused, I just looked at the guy dumbfounded and said "I'm sorry, what did you say?" to make sure I heard him right.

You guys might have Camaro's and Chevelle's, but I have a Gheeto.

I've had people ask if my 64 F-85 was a Plymouth. Oh the humanity.

I play the game the other way.
I was cleaning out some garagr cabinets and found some Formula 350 badges. Since my car is a 350 with a "400" hood it does make some sense. At car shows most comments from Pontiac guys are the "what's up with that" to which I respond "just having a little fun".
The fun part is hearing people say "Oh man, it's a Formula 350, I haven't seen one of these in years", and better yet, "a friend of mine had one ofe these back in the '70s".
It is always fun at shows to sit behind the car next to yours, people are much more likley to comment if they don't think the owner is there.

I laugh inside when people look at my Can Am and they tell me how their brother or sister or uncle had one just like mine, but it was blue or red or a 4 door?

Some people look so proud of themselves when they look at my 72 Grand Prix and comment about what a nice Riviera it is. Then ignoring the vintage 1972 license tag, they proceed to guess what year it is.

I get lots of questions when I'm in my 37. I usually just tell them what it is. I didn't know anything about pre war cars before I got mine so I'm pretty understanding.
Every once in a while I have somebody try and tell me " that's not a pontiac". That is when it gets fun!

I'm standing behind my 69 H-O LeMans, a guy comes up and says nice GTO, he's looking at the trunk and the lettering says LeMans!

Guy says nice 64 GTO to me. I say thanks, but it's a 62 Catalina. He says I can see where the front end of the Catalina gets it's styling from.. the GTO. I have to remind him 1962 is before 1964!

At a car show some guy says he likes my 66 GTO. I say it's not a GTO but a 1963 Catalina. He says it sure looks like a 66 GTO!

This is a great subject and I question these people being non-car people or jealious/stupid? My 62 LeMans was more often called a Comet or Falcon than a Pontiac and or LeMans? I have found the best response is not responding at all. How can you stabd next to a car with the emblems right in front of your face and call it something else? I can't say anything other than stupid!!!

If someone gives enough of a crap to talk to me about my car, I'm actually OK with whatever they say as long as it's not insulting or some know-it-all douche. At least they tried, right?

When I hear "nice Camaro!" I don't even bother to correct half the time. The "nice..." was the important part.

I think it best to not be smug or elitist about the whole thing. After all, we're not driving hybrids, right?

But with that said, my license plate is NOTCMRO.

My definition of "stupid" is
someone who thinks people get "jealous" of me for owning an old car...
It's a car dude, dosnt make ya any taller, thinner or have more hair!
Sorry but there it is ....
Steve.
