im painting my 59 block the 66-70 color with e heads and turbo, painted the 400 in my old 80 firebird the same. Just think that color was the epitome of Pontiac muscle cars. Although I do like other year Pontiac engine colors, unless doing a resto any year Pontiac I own will have that engine color. jmo

Depends on which Pontiac blue you are talking about? I only have eyes for the metallic Pontiac glue, so much that I painted my 77 Trans Am Pro Street engine in the metallic color.

I actually love be the classic 70's Pontiac blue. And let me tell you is not easy to find. I tried all the local auto stores. And the couldn't even order it. I was all up and down on eBay. And only found like 2 people had it listed.

That color was only up until 1970. I think he meant the darker blue used in the 70's.

I think painting your intake or valve covers a different color is the only thing acceptable. Painting the block, timing cover/water pump anything other than the correct Pontiac blue is sacrilegious

I always use the good ol DE1616 Pontiac blue metallic. regardless of the year of car i'm building. never cared for the other solid colors but would still rather see the solid colors than any other. its a die hard Pontiac thing.

Here's a spray out of both blues offered in the 70's compared to the original paint on the 79 454 you worked on for me. Same blues were used on Pontiacs, very easy to find. Last edited by Formulajones; 05-15-2017 at 10:27 AM. |

If I had a chevy I would paint the engine Pontiac met. blue. Never had anyone look at my engine and say "man, I'm getting tired of blue Pontiac engines". Just too awesome of a color.
