Default Advice on selling drivetrain - complete or separate?

Wasn't sure where to put this, but...

I plan on pulling my 455/TH400 combo this winter and selling. Was wondering if I'd be better off selling them separately or as one complete unit?

What is the combo out of?
If a it's out of a A body or F body then it's worth far more as a combo then a B body combo would be .

Selling separately would make it easier to find buyers rather than demand that both go together as a package deal.

The TH400 came out of a Grand Prix (I think 1969) and the engine came out of a 1972 B body (originally 2bbl).

In your case it would be beneficial to take videos one from inside putting the hammer down going through all gears and a video walking around at idle showing oil pressure no smoke no noise and so on

It has to help to get a higher dollar value as well as give more confidence to the buyer otherwise they are parts that need rebuilt

You might advertise before the pull and find a buyer saw someone searching recently

If I was advertising is, I'd happily take either and make such a statement. Advertised together, but willing to sell separately.

The only issue (and I'll probably run into this as well soon) is the BOP TH400. People still want good TH400's, but most guys want or need a chevy bolt pattern. It may make selling the BOP TH400 a little harder. Until you find the BOP guy that needs it.

If I was selling a drivetrain, I'd find a car to put it in, then sell that. IMO, that's the best way to get the most money out of it.

I've found it easier to sell and for more $$ while still in the vehicle running. That's how I would prefer to purchase also. As previously stated in this thread, once its out of the car its a core.

It was running (wished I had taken video), but when I tore it down to figure out why a valve was ticking, it turned out the cam had a bad lobe (I was expecting a lifter not pumping up). So the cylinders are in pretty good shape, but it needs to be cleaned and a new camshaft installed.

Sounds like the consensus is to separate with the option to sell both as a package if someone needs the combo.

So put a cam in it!
Sure hope you are not going to put a POS Chevy of any-kind in it!
