Default Looking for my 1970 Ram Air III WS engine possibly sold in the St Louis area

I am searching for the original block and heads for my 1970 Trans Am that I recently purchased. The block will be stamped WS and was installed in my Norwood built Trans Am. The block and heads would likely have been sold in the St. Louis area, possibly due to a domestic dispute. Machine work was already done on the block. If you have purchased a WS block from the St Louis area in the last couple of years, please PM me to check the VIN against my car. I would like to purchase this engine so it can go back in the car. Please PM me with any info!

I had a 70 WS out of a Trans Am several years ago. Was abandoned in a machine shop in Minnesota. I bought it and later sold it to a guy from St.Louis who was having his cars restored in Washington state. The block was shipped to Washington state. This was probably 2009. Might be able to find the vin somewhere.

I doubt it is the right one but if you have the last four of the VIN we can check.

I'd be interested to know as well. I have a Van Nuys built car that spent some time in CA, MN and OH that is missing the original block.

I found some additional information this morning. The engine block and heads were likely sold from an abandoned storage unit on May 29th, 2014. The name of the storage facility is Public Storage located on 3rd street in St. Louis. It was likely among other engines that were in this same unit. Please spread the word!

Can they not fill you in on the buyer...or contact the buyer for you?

We have been in contact with them and are waiting for a call back. With everyones concerns these days about "privacy", I am not sure if they are going to give out any information. Seems to me it should be no big deal as those auctions are public anyway.

Maybe instead of them giving you the info they can contact them and give them your phone number. That way the buyer can decide to call you or not......just a thought

That was my thought also. Still waiting to hear back from the district manager of the storage units. Interestingly, the previous owner of the car, who "lost" the engine, claims he never had rented a storage unit. His name is odd enough that there is no way a second person with the same name in the same area rented a unit and then defaulted on payments.

The manager of the storage unit contacted the buyer twice and gave him my number. The buyer has not called and looks like they won't. The manager said it was likely that the buyer would not call. I did find out some more info on the engine. Looks like it probably needed a sleeve in cylinder number 7. Other cylinders were fine to bore out. I believe this engine to be in the St. Louis area. Please spread the word.

http://countryclassiccars.com/ Jeff, I would call this guy and ask around. He's not that far from that area, and if you ever saw the place, you would also have the same hutch I'm thinking. I was just there, and he did have a truck load of engines.

I called him and no luck. He did give me a few names to call however. Thanks!

PM me the last 3 digits of the vin. I have a lead on a '70 WS that is fresh out of the St. Louis area. Longshot, but you never know! I saw the engine several weeks ago when he brought it up here but didn't catch the vin at that time. Might get another peek at it soon. Date code might have been A020??

Forgot to update this thread, but May of 2017, I was able to purchase my original block and cylinder heads from the ex-girlfriend of the guy I bought the car from. She had the parts all along and contacted me out of the blue to see if I was interested. Of course, I wasted no time driving to St. Louis to pick them up. The original block and heads have now been reunited with the car and the rest of the drivetrain (which I got at the time of purchase). Once in a while it all works out!
