Default Manual front disc

I was curious if anyone runs manual front disc brakes. If so is their something special to be aware of.

Thanks

Did the brakes move your wheels out any?

'67 "A" body. I used the spindles and other parts (rotors, bracket, etc.) from a '72 Lemans, added a combination valve and used the master that was on the car (don't know if it was original) 1" bore.

a 7/8"bore master would probably be better. Didn't notice any change in wheel position since the spindles and rotors were "A" body pieces.

Yours is a earlier year but i think a 7'8" bore master is still a good idea.

I switched my 65 GTO over to manual front Willwood discs but I also switched the Master cylinder over to a 7/8 Bore to help with 'pedal feel'. If you don't switch out to a smaller bore on your master Cylinder it will feel to hard.

What master cylinder did you use?

Thanks

Also...did you have to change your spindles for this kit?

I switched my 65 GTO and used a 67 GTO manual drum MC and removed the residual pressure valve. I did need to use the 67 MC push rod retainer cup as it is different than the 65. 65 uses a snap ring and plate in the MC itself.

Try extending the pedal and inch or so if you use the one inch master. I just cut the pedal off one and bolted another one along side it but 2" lower. Those brakes stopped so nicely.

Skip Fix, could you elaborate on this. I have a '64 and I'm thinking of going to the 67-72 dual master. I haven't done this kind of a swap before, just want to make sure I understand what you are talking about.

Here is a post with pictures.

Most drum MC has a residual pressure valve under the brass insert for the brake line. A sheet metal screw and a washer can be used to pull it out ,(a spring and rubber deal) then tap the brass insert back in.

I did re use clevis part of the rod from the 65 as it had more threads for adjustment but coupled it to the 67 rod into the MC. Cup just sandwiches between MC and firewall.
Cup and 67 rod are available from Ames.

OK. More good info. As you can probably guess from my signature, I have a '64 Tempest. I will replace my single juice jar master cylinder with a dual master. I will be looking on E-bay for a 5452310 manual master to rebuild. Then I will order the rebuild kit from our host (R129TF) along with the cup and rod.

I think the Bendix 67 manual brake MC I bought years ago at OReilly's was what I used. Not sure they even carry Bendix anymore.
